Listen to the latest episode!

Zambia knows how a copper boom usually ends: rich countries get richer and little is left behind but environmental devastation. This time, a new generation wants to change the ending. In the copper town of Kitwe, Zambia has found some of the richest copper deposits on earth, the metal the world needs to build renewable energy and AI data centres. The copper price is climbing, the mines are hiring, and young Zambians want in: a mining student betting her future on the industry, young men digging illegally in the waste dumps for whatever the mines left behind, all of them determined to come out of this boom with more than a hole in the ground.

Still on our My Vote My Voice Civic and Voter Education Campaign. On 10th July, 2026 Agents of Change Foundation (ACF) collaborated with Young Women in Action (YWA) during their exciting Inter-University Debate under the Mobilising the Youth Vote Project, featuring Evelyn Hone College and Levy Mwanawasa Medical University.

During the debate, ACF and YWA set up a Pop-Up Civic Booth creating an interactive space where students could access voter and civic education materials, ask questions about the electoral process, and engage in conversations on their rights and responsibilities as citizens. The booth provided a welcoming environment for young people to learn more about informed participation and the importance of making their voices count in the 2026 General Elections.

The combination of the debate and the civic booth demonstrated that meaningful youth engagement goes beyond discussion, but it is about providing accessible information, encouraging dialogue, and empowering young people to participate confidently in democratic processes.

A sincere thank you to Young Women in Action for bringing us on board for this activity. Together, we are creating spaces where informed, active, and empowered young citizens can thrive.

🗳️7 days to polling day, remember Your Voice. Your Vote. Your Future.

At the Local Conference of Youth Zambia 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, the youth Reporters of Agents of Change Foundation Zambia proudly represented by Kabwe Youth had their voices heard by sharing findings from consultation of young people from their communities on a national platform.⁣

Following weeks of consultative meetings with diverse groups of young people in Kabwe, our youth reporters developed a Youth Position Paper capturing their priorities and recommendations on climate action, environmental justice, and a just transition in extractive mining communities.⁣

For many years the young people of Kabwe have inherited the effects of Lead poisoning that their Town has faced, yet with all these challenges, the youth are rising to have their voices heard and contribute to the global discourse.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫:⁣
✅ Meaningful youth participation in climate and mining governance.⁣
✅ A just transition that creates decent green jobs for young people and women.⁣
✅ Stronger environmental accountability in mining communities.⁣
✅ Increased investment in climate education, innovation, and youth-led solutions.⁣
✅ Greater access to climate finance and opportunities for youth-led initiatives.⁣
