MALAILA OUTREACH REPORT
The following is part of the report on the 2022 Malaila Outreach. In general, much was learned from this year's outreach and we believe that the Lord will use our efforts so that next year, KBTL and the Mfuwe area churches can work close together for the launch of the K***a NT.
1. Major Goals
The major goal of the outreach was to reach out to one thousand souls with the gospel and to showcase what KBTL was doing regarding the K***a Bible translation in Mfuwe. The following activities were to be done to achieve our major goal:
ο To conduct a three-day training seminar for the participants during the Malaila Ceremony.
ο To do one-on-one evangelism to the people who came to cerebrate Malaila and distributes gospel tracts.
ο To conduct deliverance and healing services.
ο To show the Jesus Film and preach the gospel at night.
ο To put a table which showcased what KBTL was doing regarding the K***a Bible translation.
ο To sing the Zambian National anthem in K***a language in the main arena.
2. Achievements
We managed to do all our planned activities with dedication. According to our records we managed to reach out to a total number of 331 people during our outreach broken down as follows:
ο 182 people accepted Jesus as their Lord and personal Savior.
ο We manage to conduct deliverances prayers on 119 people.
ο We managed to pray for the sick people and 30 of them testified that they were healed we give glory to God.
ο All the records of the people reached have been compiled into one spreadsheet by PIBT. The decision slips will be shared with the local churches for follow-up and assimilation into the local churches in Mfuwe.
ο The KBTL/PIBT team was successful in providing the logistical support for the Malaila outreach and prayer seminar.
ο We were able to help the local pastors organize pastors and at least one singing group participated in the outreach.
ο There was good participation in the three days of Teaching and Prayer Seminar before the Malaila Outreach.
ο We were able to promote the work/support of KBTL. The KBTL Lusaka committee sent four members and we believe they were encouraged so that when the printed NT arrives, they will have a vision for the dedication services.
ο A table was set up at Malaila expose people to the Word of God in K***a and other languages.
ο We were able to network with some key leaders to expand evangelism opportunities in Malambo.
ο It was not necessary to rent an extra house for guests from Chipata/team members as we were able to accommodate everyone in the KBTL office.
3. Goals not accomplished
We did not manage to meet our intended target of reaching out to one thousand souls because of the following reasons:
ο Few churches responded to the call hence we had few manpower.
ο We lacked a good public address system.
4. Way Forward
We plan to do better in our next Malaila Outreach by putting the following things into consideration:
ο We plan to put a local committee that will handle the organization of the outreach whenever we have Malaila.
ο We plan to bring on board all local churches through the various Pastorsβ fellowships in Malambo as this outreach is an interdenominational program.
ο We plan to have a bigger Malaila Outreach next year than we had this year.
5. Recommendations and Suggestions for the Future
1. There is need for increased local participation and support. Without increased local support there is not likely to be a good response to the New Testament. There are many churches/congregations that do not perceive the K***a Scriptures as something they have been involved in.
2. KBTL and PIBT filled some roles at the 2022 Malaila Outreach that would be better filled by local congregations in their support of the project. Two churches from Chipata (Amazing Grace PAOG and Hope Builders International) also supported the work by sending cash gifts, equipment, or workers to be involved. While support from the outside is appreciated, the Mambwe District congregations should take the lead roles in guiding and fulfilling the needs of the events.
i. At this 2022 Malaila event approximately 53 people (Worship Centre PAOG, Baptist Church, Anglican Church and others participated but many more did not.
ii. It is likely that many denominations did not participate because Malaila is not considered to be a place where Christians should congregate. Thus, KBTL should consider having a Malaila Outreach AS WELL AS a separate event at another time and location to involve more congregations.
3. One suggestion was to have it during the 2023 July Heroβs Day-Unity Day weekend.
4. Planning for such an event should start at least four months before the scheduled date.
5. There is a need for more networking of local congregations.
a. Work through the top church leadership. Some congregations such as RCZ and Anglican tend to only be involved if the top leadership has backed the program.
b. Hard copies of letters should be distributed to churches.
c. The Pastorsβ Fellowships in Jumbe and Cropping should be included.
6. KBTL should also consider individual dedication services in each chiefdom because it is cost prohibitive to expect congregations from each chiefdom to travel to a central location.
7. Various denominations or congregations should be given responsibilities at these events so that they do not feel excluded. Such things can include:
ο Provision of food
ο Food preparation
ο Prayer ministries
ο Onsite security
ο Provision of equipment such as chairs, benches, cooking equipment, sound system.
8. A model approach could include the following steps:
i. KBTL should form a local steering committee in Mambwe District.
ii. Ask the local committee to come up with a plan listing what steps are needed.
iii. Ask the committee to formulate a budget. Most items should be funded locally. Those that are not, can also be included.
iv. Have the committee assign responsibilities.
9. For a large central event, a larger tent should be provided or perhaps two separate tents: one for prayer and ministry, and the other for visitors and various other activities.
10. A better public address system is needed.
11. For Malaila, a canter truck able to carry water, equipment (tent, chairs) and passengers is desirable.
12. Video projectors do not work well in the daytime unless the inside of the tent can be made to be very dark.
13. Regarding the Bible Listening Groups, Fidelis reported that working through the village headmen may give a better response. They are organized and likely to more open to forming BLGs, whereas the local church congregations, already have their own programs that they are preoccupied with.
6. In Conclusion
We would like to express our gratitude to the following people and fellowships:
1. Our thanks to Worship Centre Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church at Mfuwe Airport through Bishop Muchinshi for the support given to this program; the church gave us musical instruments and financial support.
2. The Gideons in Chipata through Mr. Lusopa for two boxes of the Chichewa New Testaments.
3. Bishop Nkata for one box full of gospel tracts.
4. The EFZ for prayer support.
5. And finally, to all individual believers and pastors from Malambo and Chipata who participated in this noble work.
