- The Cheshire Homes Chawama branch (Divine Providence Home) was established in 1988 under the name St Theresa by Father Angelo Panzica, who was then Chawama Catholic Parish Priest. Then in 1998 joined Cheshire Society of Zambia and home is now called Divine Providence Home for the aged, homeless and orphans. By 1999 the home had extended its care to include orphans, especially with the advent of
the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Residents of the home, some bedridden, confined to wheelchairs, blind or even mentally ill receive attention daily and medical care when needed. The home which is run by Catholic Sisters (missionary sisters of the Holy Family) has opened its doors to people of different religion, tribe and color who seek refuge and care. The Cheshire Divine Providence Home for the aged, homeless and orphans now accommodates an average of 20 aged people and 25 orphans. In addition, other elderly people and scores of orphans from the surrounding community are assisted with food and other requirements such as clothing and school fees. The running costs of the home are enormous and the Missionary Sisters at the home have the task of ensuring that both the residents of the home and some of the needy people from the community are fed and also assisted with other needs. The Cheshire Divine Providence home does not have permanent sponsors, depends largely on well-wishers and corporates institutions. Home is running small scales income generating projects.
