JCP Zambia

JCP Zambia Norwegian Church Aid & DanChurchAid formed the Zambia Joint Country Programme in 2011 to save lives, build resilient communities & seek justice.

Together, we deliver humanitarian aid, advocacy & long-term development with CSO partners across Zambia. The Joint Country Programme (JCP) Zambia is a merger of two sister international organisations, DanChurch Aid (DCA) and Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) with the overall goal of creating an enabling environment that promotes Zambian citizens, especially the poor men and women, to own and actively par

ticipate in shaping the national development agenda for their benefit. The JCP has zero tolerance for corruption and abuse from our staff and partners. If you believe something needs reporting please contact [email protected]

A Story of Change – Shelter Sianchuli
My name is Shelter Sianchuli, from Syamuluwa Village under Chief Chipepo in Gwembe District. For the past years, I have been a member of a village savings group. However, despite my commitment, my business struggled to grow due to the limited amount of money I could borrow, as our group had very little capital.
My story began to change when NOCAD supported our group with seed capital. This support increased the amount we could borrow, and I was finally able to access enough funds to invest meaningfully in our family poultry business.
Since then, my business has improved significantly, allowing me to secure a fair share of the local market. With the profits, I was able to repay my loan without difficulties. Beyond that, I have been able to improve my family's living conditions by purchasing a solar lighting system and a television, which helps me stay informed about what is happening around the world.
Looking ahead, my next goal is to build a bigger and better house for my family. This journey has shown me that with the right support and opportunity, real change is possible.

What does a conflict in the Middle East have to do with a small farm in Rufunsa? 🧐

While the world watches the "skies go up in flames" over the , the ripple effects are heading straight for our food plates. As global oil and fertiliser supplies are constrained, and prices skyrocket, the vulnerability of modern farming is being laid bare.

But in Rufunsa, Priscilla Kashimbo, a local farmer, is standing her ground. 🛡️

During the devastating 2024-2025 drought, Priscilla conducted an experiment. In one field, she used hybrid seeds and synthetic fertilisers. In the other, she used indigenous seeds, manure, and grass mulching.

The result? When the rains vanished, the hybrid crops withered into dust. But the local seeds, planted with ancient wisdom, thrived.

Priscilla didn’t need a handout from NGOs like JCP Zambia to feed her family; she harvested her own survival.

As we face a future of uncertain climates and volatile geopolitics, the "old ways" are proving to be the most forward-thinking. Let’s invest in resilience, not just relief. 🌍✨

What happens when you trade your daily routine for a blindfold and a new perspective?

Last week, LIFT-Zambia partners from across the country and, including NCA teams from Angola, Norwegian Church Aid Malawi, Somalia, Norwegian Church Aid South Sudan, and Norwegian Church Aid Tanzania met in Lusaka for a transformative Disability Inclusion training.

It was more than a workshop. Through role-playing and immersive exercises, we confronted the common barriers that hinder inclusive development. One of the biggest shifts? Realizing that seeing a disability before the person clouds our judgment and limits our connection.

We left enlightened and more aware that inclusion isn't just about inviting PWD's, inclusion is making space conducive for everyone to fully participate. We are heading back to our respective offices with a clear mission: to see the individual first and build an environment where everyone belongs.

A Thousand Doors and a Single Mission

The October rains bring more than just water to the streets of Bauleni. They bring a sharp, familiar fear of the days when Heroes Stadium served as a massive ward for the sick. Since the 2025 rains began, this crowded community has recorded twenty-one cholera cases and one tragic loss. The danger is real, but we refuse to let history repeat itself.

At NCA and DCA, we act as first responders because one life lost to a preventable disease is one too many. This past week, our teams knocked on over one thousand doors in Bauleni to deliver a shield of safety. We handed out water buckets, liquid soap, and chlorine directly to families. Across Lusaka Central, we installed handwashing stations at busy markets and police posts to ensure hygiene is always within reach.

Today, the heavy silence of dread has lifted. We see mothers filling their new buckets with safe water and children washing their hands with a sense of security. The panic has faded into a quiet, determined resilience. We did more than just deliver supplies. We gave Bauleni the power to protect its own future.

One Intervention. Three Lifelines

For years, Namanongo Clinic relied on unsafe, brown water from a handpump. It was all they had.

Today, that has changed.

What began as a borehole upgrade at Namanongo School has grown into something far bigger. A solar-powered water system now serves the school, a clinic 1km away, and a nearby community. One intervention. Three lifelines.

For the clinic, this means safer care, better hygiene, and dignity for both patients and health workers. For the school and the community, it means hope restored and dignity delivered.

In commemoration of World Water Day, the upgraded borehole was officially handed over to the people of Namanongo, received by the Rufunsa Town Council, represented by Council Chairperson, Bishop Kafula. A powerful step toward community ownership and sustainability.

Through the Restoring Hope Project under the LIFT Zambia Programme, we are proving that when water flows, health improves and equality grows.

From Conversation to Collective Action

Last year, over 20 CSOs came together for a bold experiment: honest, peer to peer dialogue about the future of civic space in Zambia.

It did not end in December 2025. It grew. 🌱

At the follow up CSO Dialogue, leaders agreed to formalize their collaboration through a coordinating committee that will meet regularly to advance issues of mutual interest. Because strengthening civil society cannot be a solo sport.

Yes, resources remain tight. CSO leaders continue to do so much with so little. But the commitment in the room was clear: we start where we are. Even if that means self sponsoring while building sustainable support.

Why does this matter?

Because when civil society is strong, communities have a stronger voice in governance, in the economy, and across sectors that shape daily life. Democratic space does not protect itself. It must be nurtured.

This is only the beginning.
