Zambian Governance Foundation The Zambian Governance Foundation for civil society (ZGF) was registered in 2009 as a company limited by guarantee.

: A Zambian society where local communities realise their rights & shape their own development.

: To strengthen local communities and civil society capacities to unlock & utilise available & untapped resources for sustainable development. Since 2010, ZGF has supported 163 organisations, ranging from well-established CSOs, emerging CSOs to community-based organisations across all p

rovinces of Zambia, through a total of 213 grants awarded. It has built relationships with an estimated 400 CSOs over the past 13 years, including grantees, and beneficiaries of training and scoping exercises, organisational capacity assessments, as well as learning and information sharing events. In 2017, community philanthropy emerged as a new pillar of work following our exposure to the concept of community philanthropy promoted by the Global Fund for Community Foundations in 2016. We considered the promotion of local philanthropy a natural progression from our past engagement and experience with CBOs. With this addition to our programme, we mutated from a dedicated civil society support organisation to one that also works directly with communities as an implementing organisation. Since then, we have been active in two strands of work, namely supporting civil society development - an area ZGF is most known for – and community philanthropy, the new component added to our programme portfolio in 2017. Today, ZGF is working in three communities located in the peri-urban areas of Lusaka, and in four rural communities in Chisamba, Chibombo, Rufunsa and Luangwa districts.

Communities deserve to be part of conversations that shape their future.

is proud to be a part of the Corridor Voices Initiative, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by our Chief Executive Officer, Engwase Mwale, alongside fellow civil society organisations from Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia.

The Lobito Corridor is one of Africa’s most significant regional infrastructure initiatives, with the potential to strengthen trade, improve connectivity and create new opportunities across the region.

Through the Corridor Voices Initiative, member organisations have established a framework for collaboration that seeks to strengthen civil society engagement and support meaningful community participation as the corridor develops.

At ZGF, we believe that sustainable development is strongest when communities have a voice and are meaningfully engaged in the decisions that shape their future.

That's a wrap on the 98th Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show!

As the curtain falls on this year's show, we reflect on a week of meaningful conversations, new connections and inspiring interactions. It was a privilege to showcase the work of the Zambian Governance Foundation and provide a platform for our youth groups to exhibit their products, share their entrepreneurial journeys and engage with visitors from across the country.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who visited our stand at Cosmas Michelo Hall, supported our youth exhibitors at the COMESA Exhibition Village and took the time to learn more about our work. Your interest, encouragement and partnerships continue to inspire our commitment to community-led development.

The show may be over, but the conversations, partnerships and opportunities created will continue to shape stronger communities and brighter futures.

Our Chief Executive Officer, Engwase Mwale, visited the Zambian Governance Foundation exhibition stands, where she engaged with our youth groups exhibiting at the COMESA Exhibition Village.

The visit provided an opportunity for the young entrepreneurs to showcase their businesses, share the inspiration behind their products and discuss their entrepreneurial journeys. It was an encouraging moment that celebrated youth innovation, enterprise and the impact of investing in community-driven livelihoods.

Meet Mwenda Mercy

A young leader proving that when young people are trusted with opportunities, they become powerful drivers of change.

A third-year Public Administration student at the Copperbelt University and Secretary General of the Copperbelt University Governance Association (CUGA), Mercy is passionate about governance, youth participation, quality education and public policy.

From founding the Career Guidance Pathway to mentoring future student leaders through a Shadow Executive Programme, she is committed to ensuring that leadership creates opportunities for others.

Now part of the Shifting the Power movement, Mercy hopes to use storytelling, advocacy and community engagement to amplify local voices and inspire more young people to take an active role in shaping development.
