Today we had an inspiring morning partnering with Lusaka City Council (LCC), IKOE Zambia, and Posh Media in a meaningful tree planting activity — joined by the Mayor of Lusaka, Her Worship Chushi Kasanda, who is equally passionate about environmental restoration.

We were also honoured to have the Kalingalinga Ward Councillor, Mukubesa Nyoni, whose presence added even more strength to this community-driven initiative.

Their encouragement highlighted the importance of collective action in making Lusaka greener and cleaner. Together, we planted trees that will help improve air quality, create cooler spaces, and build a healthier city for future generations.

A big thank you to everyone who came, supported, and contributed their energy to this initiative. Moments like this show what we can achieve when we work together.

Let’s continue nurturing these trees and spreading environmental awareness. Every seedling planted is a step toward a better tomorrow.

The Trees I Grow 🌳

I plant with passion,
some trees I sell,
some I give freely,
some I keep and tend.

In years to come,
I may not be here,
but the trees will rise,
taller than memory.

My name won’t be written
on their bark or leaves,
for they are not mine—
only borrowed gifts of life.

Thank you.

Lessons from Recent Disasters
Climate Change Adaptation: Disasters underscore the importance of adapting to climate change. This involves integrating climate-resilient practices into our infrastructure and urban planning.

Sustainable Development: Sustainable development goals (SDGs) are crucial in mitigating the impacts of climate change. This includes promoting renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and conservation efforts.

Disaster Risk Reduction: Implementing disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies can help minimize the damage caused by extreme weather events. This includes early warning systems, emergency preparedness, and resilient infrastructure.

Building Climate-Resilient Infrastructure
Roads and Bridges:

Climate-Resilient Materials: Using materials that can withstand extreme weather conditions, such as high temperatures, heavy rainfall, and flooding.

Enhanced Drainage Systems: Implementing advanced drainage systems to manage floodwaters and prevent road erosion.

Regular Maintenance: Ensuring regular maintenance and monitoring of infrastructure to address vulnerabilities and prevent failures.

Flood-Resistant Houses:

Elevation: Building houses on stilts or elevated platforms to keep them above flood levels.

Flood-Resistant Materials: Using materials that can withstand prolonged exposure to water without significant damage.

Amphibious Designs: Designing houses that can float or rise with
floodwaters, ensuring they remain habitable during floods.

Sustainable Living Projects
Renewable Energy: Investing in solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Water Conservation: Implementing rainwater harvesting systems and promoting water-efficient practices.

Urban Green Spaces: Creating green spaces in urban areas to improve air quality, reduce heat islands, and enhance biodiversity.

Waste Management: Promoting recycling, composting, and waste reduction initiatives to minimize environmental impact.

By focusing on these strategies, we can build a more resilient and sustainable future, living in harmony with the natural cycles of weather and climate.
