CITAM Plus Joins Zambia in Commemorating World TB Day

CITAM Plus proudly took part in yesterday’s World TB Day commemoration, standing together with the Ministry of Health and partners in reaffirming our collective commitment to ending Tuberculosis in Zambia.

Under the theme of strengthening partnerships and accelerating action, the event highlighted the importance of community engagement, early screening, treatment access, and sustainable financing for TB programmes. As emphasized by Hon. Dr. Alex Katakwe, MP, Minister of Health, Zambia remains committed to eliminating TB by 2030 through accessible and free screening and treatment services.

As CITAM Plus, we remain dedicated to empowering communities, supporting community-based volunteers, and amplifying the voices of TB-affected populations. Our participation in this commemoration reflects our continued role in advocacy, awareness creation, and collaboration with government and stakeholders to strengthen the TB response.

Together with communities, partners, and the Government of the Republic of Zambia, we believe that every contribution counts.

Together, we will eliminate TB. ✅💪

Last week CITAMPLUS successfully conducted Civic Leaders Advocacy Meetings on Malaria Elimination across Kasempa, Mufumbwe, and Solwezi, under the Malaria Elimination Project, with support from the Global Fund through CHAZ. The meetings brought together civic leaders, local authorities, and health teams to strengthen community ownership and leadership in the fight against malaria.

In Kasempa, the meeting was graced by the District Commissioner whose presence reaffirmed the district’s commitment to malaria elimination efforts.

In Mufumbwe, we were honored to have theDistrict Commissioner represented by District Administrative Officer, alongside area councilors and District Health Office (DHO) staff, emphasizing the importance of coordinated leadership at all levels.

In Solwezi, the engagement was led by His Worship the Mayor, highlighting the critical role of local government in mobilizing communities for sustained malaria prevention and elimination.

Across all three districts, the meetings provided a strong platform for dialogue, collaboration, and shared responsibility, with participation from area councilors and District Health Office teams, ensuring strong alignment between civic leadership and the health system.
we glad to see the commitment from civic leaders to consider supporting CBVs with bicycles to reach out to places that are vast.
Together, we are building stronger partnerships, empowering leaders, and accelerating progress toward a malaria-free Zambia..

STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS TO END TUBERCULOSIS: CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS REMAIN VITAL IN HEALTH RESPONSE-REGIONAL MPS.

On 11th June, 2025, CITAMPlus hosted a powerful engagement at its Headquarters in Lusaka between the Zambia Parliamentary Caucus on Tuberculosis (TB) and civil society organizations (CSOs) working in the fight against TB. The meeting was also attended by Members of Parliament from Malawi and Botswana.

Hon. Dr. Christopher Kalila, immediate past Chairperson of the Parliamentary Caucus on TB and current Chairperson of the Zambia Parliamentary Committee on Health, emphasized that civil society organizations (CSOs) are critical in advancing the health agenda, particularly in the fight against TB, HIV, and malaria.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Kalila stated: “We can not continue losing lives to diseases that are preventable and treatable. CSOs are on the frontline of this fight and must be supported to continue their work effectively.”

The Zambia Parliamentary Caucus on TB, hosted by CITAMPlus Zambia as its Secretariat, comprises over 70 Members of Parliament working towards ending TB in Zambia.

During the engagement, CSO representatives including Julius Kachidza, Nathan Nhlane, and Mumba Ngona expressed concern over limited domestic funding for health, particularly for TB. They noted that reduced international funding is affecting community-level interventions and called for strengthened collaboration between government and CSOs, and enhanced domestic resource mobilization.

CITAMPlus remains committed to facilitating dialogue and collaboration between policymakers and civil society in the fight to end TB in Zambia and the region. 💪🏽🇿🇲

Today, we honor potential of every African child. As we mark the Day of the African Child under the theme “Planning and Budgeting for Children’s Rights: Progress Since 2010,” we’re reminded that real progress means bold investment. As we fight to , we must ensure no child is left behind in accessing TB prevention, diagnosis, and care.
