WASAZA is a national membership-based organisation, open to individuals as well as corporate organisations with an interest in the water and sanitation sector. With over 400 registered members, WASAZA aims to be a pioneer in enhancing capacity in the water sector through training, collaboration, networking, and research. WASAZA prides itself on its collaborative work with other agencies, partners
and members in order to be a stronger organisation through collaborative work. WASAZA has played a pivotal role in advocating for the development and effective management of water and sanitation technologies in the urban, peri-urban, and rural communities of Zambia. Some of the most recent achievements for WASAZA have been, among others, capacity building of 306 middle management staff in commercial utilities, contribution to improvement of sanitation in 3 peri-urban communities (10 systems), implementation of 10 sanitation systems in private and school set-ups, and implementation of 11 agricultural biogas solutions in rural setups as energy support. The objectives of the association are outlined below:
• To provide a forum for discussing the management of water and sanitation.
• To encourage dialogue between the water and sanitation industry and the public.
• To assist in developing professional competence and best practice in water and sanitation management.
• To facilitate the exchange of information among those working in water and sanitation service provision.
• To undertake research in the area of water resources and the environment.
• To lobby government and other related bodies representing the interests of those involved in the water and sanitation industry.
