Mr. Mweetwa the founder of the NMS Foundation was in Zimbabwe attending the INTEGRITY IN SPORT workshop with the theme:
TACKLING THE MANIPULATION
OF SPORTS COMPETITIONS
30 June- 1 July 2026.
Background
The International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) and the International Olympic Committee
(IOC) are implementing a Global Capacity Building and Training Programme to assist countries and
sports organisations to address the challenge posed by competition manipulation.
In order to prevent the manipulation of sports competitions, INTERPOL and the IOC organized a
workshop in Harare, Zimbabwe, for participants from the following countries:
• Botswana
• Kenya
• Namibia
• Nigeria
• Uganda
• Zimbabwe
The workshop provided a forum to exchange knowledge on the topic of the manipulation of sports
competitions and specifically focus on the importance of national and international cooperation,
highlighting the role of each stakeholder in addressing sports competition manipulation.
The objectives of the workshop included:
• Understand Competition Manipulation, its typologies and criminal involvement
• identify roles and responsibilities of public authorities, law enforcement and sports
organisations,
• Assess current collaboration in a national platform
• Discuss and identify best practice for strengthening national collaboration
• Understand the basic steps of a competition manipulation investigation and how sports and
law enforcement authorities can coordinate and exchange relevant information.
Participants in the workshops included national officials representing
• Law enforcement and criminal justice authorities in charge of competition manipulation,
organised crime, financial crime, financial intelligence unit
