Impact Assessment Association of Zambia (IAAZ)
World Environment Day Statement – 5 June 2025
Theme: “Putting an End to Plastic Pollution”
Today, the Impact Assessment Association of Zambia (IAAZ) joins the global community in commemorating World Environment Day 2025 under the theme “Putting an End to Plastic Pollution.” This theme serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to shift from a throwaway culture to a circular economy that values sustainability and responsibility.
Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time—choking our rivers, polluting our landscapes, threatening biodiversity, and endangering human health. As environmental professionals and advocates, we recognize the critical role we must play in addressing this crisis through awareness, education, policy influence, and community engagement.
On this day, IAAZ calls on all stakeholders—government, industry, academia, civil society, and the public—to take bold and meaningful steps to reduce plastic consumption, promote reuse and recycling, and support innovative alternatives to single-use plastics. Let us invest in sustainable solutions and influence policy reforms that prioritize environmental protection and long-term ecological balance.
As we reflect on this year’s theme, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening environmental impact assessment practices that integrate plastic waste management strategies and support greener project implementation across all sectors.
Together, we can forge a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Zambia—free from plastic pollution. Let’s act today for a better tomorrow.
