Expanding contraceptive choices and strengthening family planning services in Luapula Province!
Jhpiego Zambia, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Luapula Provincial Health Office, has successfully launched the CHAI Hormonal Intrauterine Device (H-IUD) Project with a Training of Trainers in Samfya District.
The CHAI H-IUD Project is designed to increase access to a wider range of safe, effective, and client-centered contraceptive options for women and families across Luapula Province. By integrating H-IUD services into existing family planning programs, the project aims to strengthen health systems, improve service delivery, and support informed decision-making through quality counseling and care.
Twelve healthcare providers from six districts have been equipped as certified H-IUD trainers and will now cascade these skills to fellow providers, helping to expand access to quality family planning services across 182 health facilities in Luapula Province.
Community engagement is also underway, with 160 Community-Based Volunteers already oriented to raise awareness and create demand for H-IUD services at community level.
Through provider capacity building, community mobilization, supply chain strengthening, and data quality improvement, the project is contributing to Zambia’s vision of ensuring that every woman has access to informed, voluntary, and comprehensive contraceptive choices.
Together, we are advancing reproductive health and empowering communities across Luapula Province.
