A historic step forward for inclusion and human rights in Zambia 🇿🇲
On 17th April 2026, the Government of Zambia officially launched the National Action Plan for the Protection of Persons with Albinism—marking a major milestone in advancing safety, dignity, and equal opportunities for persons with albinism across the country.
This achievement builds on the momentum of the Private Member’s Motion passed in Parliament on 10th December 2025, reflecting growing national commitment to addressing the challenges faced by persons with albinism.
The development of this Action Plan has been made possible through collaborative efforts, with support from Cheshire Homes Society of Zambia and the Africa Albinism Network, with funding from Liliane Fonds.
This is more than a policy—it is a promise. A promise to strengthen protection, promote inclusion, and ensure that no one is left behind.
Now, the focus shifts to implementation. Together, we can turn this commitment into real change in communities across Zambia.

THE UNVEILING CONTINUES DAY FOUR

Here is another reason you cannot afford to miss this year’s 4th Anunal Prosecutors’ Conference.

This far, we have gone from the Supreme Court of Kenya to the Constitutional Court of Zambia.

We now turn to a different kind of power the power of advocacy that refuses to leave anyone behind.

MEET SHARON HANDONGWE

Disability Rights Advocate | Cheshire Homes Society of Zambia

THE WORK THAT SAVES LIVES

For over 15 years, Sharon has fought for one simple truth that persons with disabilities deserve more than protection, they deserve a seat at every table.

She is leading "Out of the Shadows for Good," a project tackling the exclusion and harm faced by persons with albinism in Zambia. Through this work, lives are being saved. Systems are being built. And communities are being transformed.

THE POLICY ARCHITECT

Behind Zambia's National Action Plan for the Protection of Persons with Albinism? Sharon helped build it.

She engages presidents, parliamentarians, and traditional leaders, not to ask for favours, but to demand inclusion as a right.

WHY YOU NEED TO MEET HER

Sharon is coming to remind prosecutors that justice is not truly just if it leaves anyone behind.

She will challenge you. She will move you. And she will show you what inclusive justice really looks like.

This is not a lecture. This is a call to action.

THE CONFERENCE

📆 16 – 18 March 2026

📍 Mulungushi International Conference Centre, KK Wing

🎉 Zambia Milestone Alert!

On 19 December 2025, the National Action Plan (NAP) Technical Committee and the Out of the Shadows Project team successfully submitted the Draft NAP for the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Persons with Albinism in Zambia to the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services for adoption.

This marks a significant step forward in advancing coordinated, government-led action to address the persistent challenges of human rights, protection, and inclusion faced by persons with albinism in the Zambia.

Once adopted, the NAP will serve as a strategic and operational framework guiding government, civil society, and development partners to work collectively towards ending violence, discrimination, and exclusion of persons with albinism.

📢 We call on the Government of Zambia to adopt the NAP in line with the African Union Plan of Action on Albinism (2021–2031) and the SADC Declaration of 2024 to protect persons with albinism.
