Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and rich heritage of our communities across Zambia and the entire African continent.
As we commemorate African Freedom Day, may we continue to stand together in unity, protect our natural heritage, uplift our communities, and build a future where both people and nature thrive.

From all of us at the Zambia CBNRM Association, we wish you a meaningful and joyful African Freedom Day.

Africa remains one of the most biodiversity-rich regions on Earth, with Sub-Saharan Africa still holding around 80% of its biodiversity. Remarkably, around 80% of this biodiversity exists outside protected areas, in landscapes where people live and work. This is according to new African-led research published in Nature.
These living landscapes support biodiversity while also providing food, water, grazing resources and other ecosystem services to millions of people.
And therein lies the opportunity. Sustaining biodiversity at scale depends on approaches that work with the people living alongside it, often referred to as Human-Centred Conservation.
If Southern Africa is to maintain its remarkable biodiversity intactness into the future, people must be at the core of our efforts.
