FAWEZA PARTICIPATES IN JOB EXPO ZAMBIA 2026

The Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia (FAWEZA) participated in Job Expo Zambia 2026, held at the Lusaka Showgrounds – Polo Fields. The event brought together jobseekers, employers, professionals, industry leaders, exhibitors and vendors to connect and explore employment and business opportunities.

FAWEZA participated alongside its Mastercard Foundation graduate participants, providing them with a platform to engage with prospective employers, build professional networks and explore career opportunities.

During the event, FAWEZA was honoured to welcome Mr. Zechariah Luhanga, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, who visited the FAWEZA stand and commended the organisation’s efforts in supporting young people through skills development and employability initiatives. These efforts complement the Ministry’s work in promoting employment opportunities and strengthening the link between training and the labour market.

Through its participation, FAWEZA continues to support its graduates in transitioning from training into employment and meaningful career opportunities.

FAWEZA AND ABSA BANK SIGN MoU TO EMPOWER YOUNG PEOPLE

FAWEZA, led by Executive Director Mr. Costern Kanchele, this morning signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Absa Bank Zambia, represented by Bruce Jaani, Business Banking Director, to strengthen financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship among young people.

The partnership will focus on participants under the Mastercard Foundation-supported programme, as well as young people in partner institutions, helping them acquire practical skills for employment, financial management and business development.

Key areas of collaboration include Absa’s Ready to Work programme, financial literacy, women in business, entrepreneurship and expanding access to agency banking. Through these initiatives, young people will have opportunities to build their confidence, make informed financial decisions and explore different pathways to earning a living.

The meeting also focused on how to turn the agreement into practical action. Both institutions highlighted the importance of intentional planning, setting clear key performance indicators (KPIs) and identifying the institutions where the training will take place.

The partnership aims to reach 2,400 participants per institution across 56 tertiary institutions, making coordination and effective planning essential to the successful delivery of the training. Absa also expressed interest in being directly involved in the training sessions to engage with participants and ensure the partnership is visible on the ground.

Through this partnership, FAWEZA and Absa Bank Zambia are working towards ensuring that young people are not only educated and trained, but also equipped with the financial knowledge, workplace skills and entrepreneurial confidence they need to take advantage of opportunities and build sustainable livelihoods.

James Sichone to Participate in Skills Without Borders Panel at Africa Skills Week 2026

James Sichone, a Cohort 1 participant under the FAWE/Mastercard Foundation Bursary Support Programme, is taking part in the 3rd Africa Skills Week 2026 being held in Harare, Zimbabwe.

James is pursuing a Diploma in Mathematics and Computer Science at Malcolm Moffat College of Education. He is also the founder of the Youth Digital Enterprise Hub, an initiative aimed at equipping young people with practical digital skills and connecting them to income-generating opportunities.

Beyond showcasing his work in digital innovation, James will be one of the participants in the “Skills Without Borders: Advancing Inclusive Skills Pathways for Marginalized Youth” parallel session.

The session will take place Today, 16th October 2026, from 14:00 to 15:30 CAT at the Main Auditorium, Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The discussion will focus on inclusive skills pathways for marginalised young people and the importance of creating opportunities for them to develop their skills and participate in the economy.

At the Expo, James is also showcasing website prototypes, graphic design and branding projects, digital portfolios and an e-commerce concept through his Youth Digital Enterprise Hub initiative. His work demonstrates how digital skills can be used to create business opportunities and support young people to become self-reliant.

James’ participation reflects the importance of giving young people opportunities to share their experiences, contribute to discussions and demonstrate how skills development can translate into real opportunities.

When James Sichone, a third-year Mathematics and ICT with Education student at the Malcom Moffat College of Education in Serenje -Central Province, walked into the 3rd Africa Skills Week 2026 in Harare, Zimbabwe, he carried more than textbooks and ambition. He carried the hopes of a generation — and he left with a fire that no classroom alone could have ignited.
Under the powerful theme "𝑆𝑘𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑠 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝐴𝑓𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝐼𝑛𝑑𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑠: 𝐹𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑜 𝑉𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒 𝐶𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛" James didn't just attend a conference. He engaged in a continental awakening.

International Day of the Girl Child 2026 – Awareness Sessions

As part of activities to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child , FAWEZA joined the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, CAMFED, SOS Children’s Village and Girl Inspiration to conduct awareness sessions at St. Patrick’s Girls School, Mumuni Primary School and Mahati Magandi School.
The sessions were held under this year’s theme, “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Education,” and emphasised the role of education in empowering girls and shaping their futures.
FAWEZA also donated sanitary towels to the girls, as part of its continued efforts to support their well-being and keep them in school.

Reaching Refugee Communities with the Cohort 4 TVET Bursary Opportunity

FAWEZA is conducting community sensitisation on the Cohort 4 TVET bursaries at refugee outreach centres in Chipata and Kanyama compounds in Lusaka in partnership with Caritas Zambia and UNHCR.

The outreach aims to reach as many refugees as possible with information about the bursary opportunity and ensure that eligible young people are not left behind.

During the sensitisation sessions, we are also guiding potential applicants through the application process, helping them understand the requirements and how to apply.

FAWEZA is at the 2026 Educational Expo alongside the Kids Expo organized by Butterfly Entertainment where we are engaging with learners, stakeholders and the public as they visit our stand to learn more about our programmes.

We are also distributing application forms for the 2027 TVET bursaries, providing young people with an opportunity to apply for support to pursue Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

FAWEZA wishes to congratulate Phiri Manasseh on graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Sciences from Cavendish University Zambia.

Manasseh received support throughout his tertiary education through the ZEBRA Trust Project, which partners with FAWEZA to help vulnerable and disadvantaged learners overcome financial barriers to education.

His achievement highlights the importance of investing in education and creating opportunities for young people to reach their full potential. Through the ZEBRA Trust Project, FAWEZA continues to support learners at different levels of education, enabling them to pursue their academic goals and work towards a brighter future.
