We are pleased to share that Dr Joyce Sakala , Regional Vice President for the Near East & Africa of the Medical Women’s International Association and President of MWAZ, was among the MWIA representatives at the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The World Health Assembly is WHO’s highest decision-making body. The MWIA delegation was led by the international President, Dr Amany Asfour and was well attended by the MWIA executive members. During the meeting, Dr. Sakala participated in several key sessions and delivered three of nine official statements on behalf of MWIA addressing Primary Health Care(PHC), Social Determinants of Health and Digital Health as well as Health Workforce Recruitment and Protection

MWIA co-hosted a side event with the Global Sepsis Alliance and other important stakeholders highlighting the huge burden of sepsis and urging it's prioritization as it affects 26 million women and 20 million children annually and accounts for 20% of global deaths.
This representation ensured the voices and priorities of women health professionals and the patients they serve were included in international health policy discussions.

The MWIA executive meeting chaired by the international President, Dr Amany Asfour was held alongside the WHA.

We thank Dr. Sakala for her participation and advocacy on the global stage.
