When Edina first arrived at Finding Joy Zambia, she was severely malnourished, lethargic, and withdrawn. The effects of long-term malnutrition were visible in her fragile body and thinning hair. Her future felt uncertain.
But because of supporters like you, Edina’s story is beginning to change.
Since coming to Finding Joy, Edina has grown stronger physically, emotionally, and academically. She is becoming more independent in daily routines like bathing, brushing her teeth, and getting dressed. She is making progress in reading, math, social interaction, and other daily living skills. She now eagerly helps with activities like washing clothes, serving food, and cleaning dishes. She is growing in confidence, initiative, and joy.
And it is not only Edina who is changing.
Her mother has grown in her understanding of Edina’s disability and now sees that her daughter is capable of learning and growing in meaningful ways. She has gained tools and strategies to help support Edina when she returns home, and perhaps most beautifully, she has begun to see her daughter not as a burden, but as a child created in the image of God.
There is a new joy in her smile: a hope that comes from seeing her child thrive.
