MY STORY - CAROL MEEMA, 41 - FOUNDER & SURVIVOR 🎗️

My name is Carol Meema. I am 41 years old and Co- founder of HOPEFUL HEARTS BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION ZAMBIA

In 2023, I was diagnosed with Invasive Hormonal Breast Cancer in my right breast. I was only 38 then.

It was invasive – meaning the cancer had broken out of where it started and was spreading into my breast tissue. It was a very frightening time for me and my family.

I started chemotherapy in 2023. I lost my hair, I was weak, but I kept praying.

In 2024, I had a mastectomy – my right breast was removed. It was painful, but it saved my life.
Today I am on Tamoxifen every day. I go for checkups. I am alive. I am a survivor.
Because of what I went through, we started this group tm support fellow survivors.

We understand what it means to have no transport to go to the hospital, to fail to buy drugs, to feel alone, and today I decided to share my little story with the Zambian Cancer Society and Break the Silence on Cancer.

We are joining DukuTober this October! My team and I are ready for the Fitness Event on 3rd October at East Park Mall
