🎉 A Landmark Moment for Education in Zambia!

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Zambia warmly welcomes the assent of the Education (Amendment) Bill into law by our Chief Patron, His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema. By enshrining free education into law, Zambia has taken a significant step towards securing access to education for current and future generations of young people. Since the introduction of free education, millions more children have been able to return to school, creating new opportunities for learning, growth, and hope.

As an organisation committed to developing young people beyond the classroom, we are excited by the opportunities this milestone creates. Access to education is the foundation, but it must be complemented by the development of essential human skills such as leadership, resilience, communication, teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and active citizenship.

Through the Award, thousands of young people across Zambia are already building these skills through service, skills development, physical recreation, adventurous journeys, and residential experiences. We look forward to strengthening our collaboration with the Ministry of Education Zambia and other stakeholders to ensure that every young person not only has access to education but is also equipped with the human skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Together, we can empower a generation of confident, capable, and engaged young people who will shape Zambia's future.

We are super excited to welcome this first cohort of the Wallace Group Universities Volunteers whom we will be working closely with as they all have experience in attaining at least one level of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.
We will be leveraging this knowledge and experience as they work closely with the Award leaders and participants at the sports hub sites thanks to our deepening partnerships with UK in Zambia, Sport In Action and Volunteer Zambia!

We were proud to participate as both a sponsor and exhibitor at the Education Fair and Career Expo 2026, organised by Inclusive Education for Sustainable Development (IESD), a platform dedicated to advancing inclusive and sustainable education in Zambia.

The event brought together a diverse range of stakeholders from the education and development sectors, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, the European Union (EU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), schools, universities, learners, and civil society organisations.

One of the key themes emerging from the discussions was the growing importance of human skills development among young people. Skills such as resilience, adaptability, communication, and leadership continue to be recognised as essential for success in an ever-changing world, values that are deeply embedded within the Award framework.

Throughout the expo, we had the opportunity to engage with learners from various schools who visited our exhibition stand to learn more about the Award and the opportunities it provides for personal growth, skills development, community engagement, and leadership. It was inspiring to meet young people who are already thinking critically about their future and their role in building a more sustainable society.

The event also provided a valuable platform to connect with organisations working across the education and development landscape, strengthening partnerships and exchanging ideas on how we can collectively promote inclusive, equitable, and quality learning opportunities for all.

We remain committed to empowering young people with the human skills - resilience, creativity, critical thinking and teamwork that are needed to thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world around them.

More Good Days Together 🌱

This Mental Health Awareness Month 2026, we join the global call to create “More Good Days Together” by celebrating the power of resilience, growth, and well-being in young people.

Through every challenge completed in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Zambia, participants are building confidence, strengthening resilience, developing healthier habits, and improving their overall well-being.

In this video listen to one of our Bronze Award Participant at Helen Kaunda Girls Secondary School as she shares how her Award journey has positively impacted her mental health and personal growth.

Her story is a reminder that when young people are empowered with the right opportunities, they thrive — mentally, emotionally, and socially.

We are excited for this partnership and the upcoming expo! Catch us there and let's have a conversation!

Today, we celebrate Africa Day! A day to honour our rich heritage, diverse cultures, and the limitless potential of our continent.

Across Zambia and beyond, young people are rising as leaders, innovators, changemakers, and active citizens shaping Africa’s future.

At The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Zambia, we are proud to walk alongside young people as they discover their purpose, develop life skills, and create positive change in their communities.

This Africa Day, we celebrate the courage, resilience, and ambition of Africa’s youth.

The future of Africa is not ahead of us, it is already here, in the hands of young people who dare to dream, lead, and serve.

Happy Africa Day.

We were delighted to attend the Education World Forum to continue the conversation about what it truly means to prepare young people for the future.

Our Chairman, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, hosted a plenary session with ministers and education leaders from around the world on empowering learners through non-formal education.

In a rapidly changing world, young people need more than digital fluency — they need the confidence, resilience, judgement, and sense of responsibility to navigate complexity and lead with purpose.

Non-formal education plays a vital role in helping young people develop these foundational Human Skills. As we look to the future of education, these global conversations are more essential than ever.

A milestone worth celebrating ✨

Last year, under our partnership with Sport in Action Zambia, we proudly had welcomed Silver participants from our 1st inital Bronze cohorts in Lusaka. This year, we celebrate an exciting milestone as we welcome their very first Gold cohort.

With over 60 participants across Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, these young people continue to push beyond their comfort zones, challenge themselves, and grow into confident, capable leaders.

Through the Award, participants are developing valuable life skills, discovering their strengths, building resilience, and making a meaningful impact in their communities. As many of them shared, this journey is helping them become more disciplined, confident, and determined to achieve even greater goals.

The progress we are witnessing is a true reflection of what happens when young people are given the opportunity to grow, lead and thrive.

The journey continues and they are ready for the next challenge.
