Citizens for Democratic Governance (CDG) Supports ECZ's Decision to Remove Official Mark on Ballot Papers.

As a non-governmental organization committed to promoting inclusive democratic governance in Zambia, Citizens for Democratic Governance (CDG) welcomes the Electoral Commission of Zambia's (ECZ) decision to remove the official mark on ballot papers.

This move aligns with ECZ's mandate to ensure free and fair elections. By removing the official mark, ECZ aims to protect voters from being unfairly disqualified due to polling assistants' errors. This decision prioritizes voter rights and promotes electoral inclusivity.

The official mark's removal will likely reduce spoiled ballots, ensuring more votes count in the electoral process. ECZ's existing security measures, such as serial numbers and ballot book management, provide adequate safeguards against electoral malpractice.

CDG supports ECZ's commitment to enhancing the electoral process and protecting voter rights. This decision demonstrates ECZ's dedication to making elections more inclusive, transparent, and accountable.

We urge all stakeholders to support ECZ's efforts to strengthen Zambia's democratic processes.

Signed, by Secretary General Peter Kaluba.
