THE BLESSING OF BEING SINGLE
PASTOR FRANCIS CHIFUNTWE
Genesis 2:18
18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be ALONE; I will make him an help meet for him.
Being Single today has been seen by many people as a bad thing,to some extent as a curse by many people especially the women flock. Some want to be married just to escape this curse of being single as it is considered that way by them due to their lack of spiritual understanding.
While, though being single may be considered as such by many, it is not so when you scripturally examine the issue. When you study God's word you will really appreciate being single because it is a blessing not a curse. It precedes the stage of marriage and your understanding of this stage is what will determine the success as well as the failure of your marriage.
Coming to our opening scripture, God showed us that before Adam was married to Eve, he was ALONE not lonely. Being Alone is different from being lonely in that being Alone is the state of being single, one, without company, unique, rare while being lonely is having the feeling of depression or sadness resulting from the consciousness of being alone according to the English Dictionary. Many who are married do it because they are lonely, thinking that marriage will give them happiness to be disappointed in the end.
The "alone" stage is the stage of being single. It is a critical stage to understand what to do and how to use it for your advantage as you prepare to transition to the next stage. Remember the next important level of relationships after your relationship with God is the singleness relationship.
THE LEVELS OF RELATIONSHIP AS UNFOLDED IN THE BIBLE
1. GOD-Man relationship: Before Eve was made from Adam's rib, only God and Adam were in the garden.
2. Man relationship with Himself: the bible says Man was himself ( alone)
" And the Lord God said, It is not good for the man to be by HIMSELF: I will make one like himself as a help to him" ( Genesis 2:18 BBE emphasis added).
This is when Adam was single (alone) before Eve was brought to him by God meaning being single precedes being married.
3. The Marriage relationship: Adam married Eve ( Genesis 2:21-25).
4. The parent-Child relationship: Cain and Abel were born to Adam and Eve in Genesis 4.
The levels of relationships kept on unfolding as you read further.
THE BLESSINGS OF BEING SINGLE
1. You have an opportunity to discover your purpose and prepare to fulfill it.
Adam knew his purpose before Eve was given to him.
2. You have an opportunity to develop your personality, character, emotions and mental faculties.
Don't enter into marriage with an immature way of thinking, immature emotions and unpolished personality.
Educate yourself. Train your personality through the Word of God, overcome your anger, weaknesses and your shortcomings.
3. You have an opportunity to increase your Abilities
Increase and develop the things you can do, your potentials, abilities and your skills, many don't get the time to do so when they are married.
Don't dependent on what others can do for you. Learn to do them yourself. Before you want an educated man be educated yourself, before a working hard one comes work hard yourself.
4. You have an opportunity to build your Self-Esteem and Self-Image
Don't allow your self to be belittled by anybody, have insecurities and jealousy which are as a result of lack of Proper Self-Image and Self-Esteem. The lack of Proper Self-Image and Self-Esteem is what has made many to say things like these to each other "you complete me" ( no man on earth can complete anybody but Only God can do that), "you are my light" ( are you darkness? True if you are not born again) etc don't wait for people to make you feel good or make you happy but do it for yourself.
If you are blessed say " I AM SINGLE AND PROUD."
