The Young Women in Action, in partnership with Council of Activists and , through the Claim Your Space project, convened a stakeholder engagement in Lusaka, aimed at creating dialogue around the state of civic space, the exercise of fundamental rights, and challenges affecting citizens' ability to participate freely in civic and democratic processes. The engagement is aimed at strengthening freedom of expression while calling for legal reform to guarantee protection of fundamental freedoms.

STRENGTHENING ZAMBIA’S ELECTORAL PROCESSES

The ZIKO Lathu Consortium has launched its 2026 General Elections Monitoring Report, When the Dust Settles: On the Other Side of the Vote, at the Global Platform Zambia.

The report presents evidence-based insights, practical recommendations, and opportunities for dialogue aimed at strengthening Zambia’s future electoral processes.

Key recommendations include:

1. Improved election results management.
2. Continuous voter education and civic engagement.
3. Stronger protection of civic and media freedoms.
4. Enhanced safeguards against electoral violence.
5. Deliberate measures to promote the meaningful participation of women, young people, and other marginalized groups.

As the dust settles, the work of strengthening inclusive, peaceful, and democratic electoral processes continues.
