UPLIFT MEDIA continues campus mentorship at Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School
Uplift Media has sustained its commitment to nurturing young communicators through its ongoing Campus Mentorship Programme at Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School.
The latest facilitation session introduced learners to the Inverted Pyramid structure in news writing, showing that the most important information should always come first in a story.
During the session, learners were guided on how to craft strong introductions, or leads, that immediately present the key facts.
The training also covered the Five W’s of journalism Who, What, Where, When, and Why as essential tools for gathering and presenting accurate information.
Practical examples were shared to help students understand how to integrate these elements into their writing.
To reinforce the lesson, students practiced writing news leads using the Inverted Pyramid format. They were encouraged to ensure their introductions answered the Five W’s clearly and concisely.
The mentorship was facilitated by trainee mentors Abigail Kandeke and Harrison Mbewe, who took on the students with enthusiasm and dedication.
At the close of the session, learners were assigned to write a short news story applying the Inverted Pyramid structure, beginning with a strong lead before adding supporting details.
This initiative reflects Uplift Media’s continued effort to empower young people with professional communication skills, preparing them to become the next generation of journalists and storytellers.
