The Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID), in collaboration with the Joining Forces Alliance (JFA) and UNICEF, convened a multi-stakeholder dialogue with political parties and key stakeholders to amplify children’s voices ahead of the electoral process.
The dialogue focused on a manifesto developed from consultations with children across Zambia, highlighting their concerns, aspirations, and recommendations on issues affecting their lives and future.
Speaking on behalf of the Joining Forces Alliance, Dr. Paul Kapotwe emphasized the need to place children at the centre of political and development agendas by ensuring their voices are reflected in policies and governance processes.
The meeting also introduced child safeguarding tools for use during political campaigns, including safeguarding guidelines, a code of conduct, and a risk assessment tool aimed at promoting the safety, dignity, and meaningful participation of children.
JFA called on all political parties to adopt and implement these safeguarding measures to protect children from harm, exploitation, manipulation, and unsafe political environments during campaigns.

BATA & SOS ZAMBIA – 2025 SUCCESS STORY

2025 was a big year! Thanks to the continued partnership between Bata Zambia Shoe Company and SOS Children's Villages Zambia, over 800 young people across Chipata, Kitwe, Lusaka and Livingstone have gained valuable skills to change their lives.

Highlights from 2025 include reaching 34 emerging entrepreneurs through the Budding Entrepreneurs Programme, with two young innovators receiving direct business support. More than 128 youth were trained in digital literacy, opening doors to employment opportunities.

Representatives from the Board of Trustees and staff of SOS Children’s Villages in Zambia today conducted a familiarisation visit to Chikumbi Children’s Home of Safety.

The facility, which operates under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare, provides temporary shelter, care, and rehabilitation for children and young people in street situations and other situations of vulnerability. It offers a structured, child-centred environment that supports recovery, learning, and reintegration into families and communities.

SOS Children’s Villages in Zambia expressed appreciation for the invitation and recognised the critical role played by Chikumbi Children’s Home of Safety in strengthening child protection systems.

The visit highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that children and young people without parental care or at risk of losing it receive the support they need to develop and thrive.

SOS Children’s Villages reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners to promote equal opportunities for all children, regardless of their circumstances.

SOS Children’s Villages in Zambia held a strategic briefing with the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS).

The meeting provided an opportunity to share updates on our ongoing global transformation, which is strengthening how we support children and young people without parental care or at risk of losing it. Discussions also highlighted key programme achievements in 2025 and ongoing collaboration in areas such as child protection, family strengthening, youth empowerment, and community development.

“We appreciate the continued partnership with SOS Children’s Villages and remain committed to working together to strengthen systems that protect and support children and young people across Zambia,” said Mrs. Angela Kawandami, Permanent Secretary at MCDSS.

Dr. Paul Kapotwe, National Director of SOS Children’s Villages in Zambia, added: “Our collaboration with government is essential to ensuring that children and young people grow up with the care, relationships, and support they need to become their strongest selves.”

We reaffirm our commitment to working closely with the Government of Zambia to strengthen national child protection systems and expand impact for children, young people, and families.
