Zambia Centre For Inter-Party Dialogue - ZCID Zambia’s foremost umbrella institution of political parties for deepening, defending and consolidating multiparty democracy.

ZCID is guided by the principles and values of trust, respect and shared values of national unity within our political and cultural diversity and dignity of all human beings. The organizational objectives of ZCID as follows.

- To deepen and consolidate democratic governance in Zambia by strengthening institutional and human capacity of political parties as pillars of a vibrant multiparty democracy

- To serve as the forum for all political parties registered in Zambia to harmonize views and build consensus on issues of national interest
To develop, maintain and enforce a code of conduct and other ethical standards to govern inter-party relations and ensure internal party democracy, mutual respect among and participatory decision making in member political parties. Since its establishment, ZCID, with support from donors, has been implementing two programmes namely; the bilateral and CrossParty programmes. The Cross Party programme is aimed at strengthening democratic systems while the Bilateral programme is aimed at strengthening the institutional capacities of political parties. The Cross Party programme also provides a platform for interparty dialogue on national issues.

MEDIA BREAKFAST ENGAGEMENT ON THE NATIONAL PEACE AND NON-VIOLENCE PLEDGE AND THE ROLE OF YOUTHS IN THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS

As Zambia prepares for the 13th August 2026 General Elections, ActionAid Zambia (AAZ), in partnership with the Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID), today hosted a Media Breakfast Engagement bringing together representatives from over 30 political parties, the media and other key stakeholders.

The engagement built on the National Peace Pledge, spearheaded by the Three Church Mother Bodies – CCZ, EFZ and ZCCB – together with ZCID, and reinforced the role of young people and political parties in promoting peace, tolerance and non-violence before, during and after the elections.

Political parties represented included: UNIP, ZAWAPA, UPND, PNUP, RDC, APC, PEP, PF, EFF, Munthu Party, MDC, ULP, NCP, DU Party, LDP, UPP, NAREP, NRP, CDP, PAC, RP, M4CE, OPP, ZMP, Heritage Party, FDD, NDC, SP, UBZ and CF.

With Zambia just days away from the 13 August 2026 General Elections, representatives from UNIP, ZAWAPA, UPND, PNUP, RDC, APC, PEP, PF, EFF, Munthu Party, MDC, ULP, NCP, DU Party, LDP, UPP, NAREP, NRP, CDP, PAC, RP, M4CE, OPP, ZMP, Heritage Party, FDD, NDC, SP, UBZ and CF, the Zambia Centre For Inter-Party Dialogue - ZCID, in partnership with the Three Church Mother Bodies, the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), and Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), with support from ActionAid Zambia, today convened a political party roundtable dialogue on recent incidents of political violence and the implementation of the National Peace and Non-Violence Pledge.

The dialogue is providing a critical space for political parties to reflect on the factors contributing to political violence, share practical measures being taken to uphold the Peace Pledge, and agree on immediate actions to prevent further violence during the remaining campaign period.

Participants are also reaffirming their collective commitment to peaceful, inclusive and non-violent political participation before, during and after the elections.

Peace pledges must translate into action. Political differences must be resolved through dialogue, not violence.

Peace is not the responsibility of one political party, institution or individual. Peace is everyone’s responsibility.
