This September, in recognition of Su***de Prevention Month, Society 260 presents THE VOICES WE CARRY: AN EXTENSION OF THE REMEMBRANCE ROOM, a solo exhibition by Erica Kapaya 🔴

As a member of the inaugural cohort, Kapaya extends questions first explored through The Remembrance Room, turning inward to consider memory, identity and the quiet process of becoming.

Bringing together a new body of work alongside pieces developed during her time in the residency, The Voices We Carry traces the spaces between who we were, who we are and who we are becoming. Through painting, Kapaya reflects on what we remember, what we release and the experiences that continue to remain with us.

At a time when conversations around mental health, isolation and emotional wellbeing remain increasingly important, the exhibition continues Society 260’s commitment to creating spaces where art can hold reflection, vulnerability and connection.

Society 260 is pleased to announce our collaboration with artist Erica Kapaya, a member of the inaugural 2026 cohort.

Expanding on her experience in The Remembrance Room, her solo exhibition, The Voices We Carry continues a conversation around memory, reflection, the self, and what we carry with us.

Featuring new works alongside those created during her Club 260 residency, the exhibition traces what happens when we make space to sit with ourselves just and listen.

After more than a year of planning, our first-ever and exhibitions came to life during Mental Health Awareness Month and continued through June 🔴

We received 197 applications in just nine days, with our top eight candidates forming the inaugural 2026 Residency Cohort.

The journey began at Everyday Lusaka Gallery (ELG), where the residency unfolded, and “The Remembrance Room” first opened to the public. We later extended the residency at the Lusaka Contemporary Art Centre (LuCAC) with an open studio, where the cohort continued developing their work and the wider community connected before the exhibition moved into its next form.

A special thank you to our lead therapist and facilitator, Remi Busch, for travelling to Zambia and holding this process with such care and intention.

To our host partners, ELG and LuCAC, thank you for making space for the residency and exhibitions to unfold and meet the public. To our wider network of partners, supporters and contributors, thank you for the many ways you helped actualize this offering.

To our 2026 Residency Cohort and team who carried this journey, thank you for your trust and commitment.

To our Sofam, thank you for sharing, showing up and engaging with the work beyond the room. You reflected, remembered and even made space for an engagement proposal along the way 🤗

Some of you described the experience as “life-changing.” We carry those words with us as we remain committed to actionable mental health advocacy, creating spaces where awareness becomes impact.

While this chapter comes to a close, The Remembrance Room remains in motion through the work created, the stories shared and the memories carried forward.

Thank you for making our first residency and exhibitions possible. Our hearts are full ♥️🔴

Before “The Remembrance Room” moved into its next form, we transformed the LuCAC gallery into an open studio.

During the extension, Remi continued her research into the intersection of mental health and ancestry. She also held space for our 2026 Residency Cohort to expand on their work, while inviting the wider community to connect with both the artists and Remi ✨

The week also included one-on-one therapy sessions, alongside a pop-up 3RD Space Lounge where visitors could hang out, slow down and be.

A lovely week spent creating, reflecting and remembering together at the Lusaka Contemporary Art Centre (LuCAC) 🔴

“The Remembrance Room” is in motion.

Following its debut at Everyday Lusaka Gallery, the inaugural exhibition now moves to the Lusaka Contemporary Art Centre.

Featuring work by Mwandu, Fred Elf, Mary K, Erica Kapaya, Mike Masupa Mufana, Maingaila Muvundika, Mwiche Nambeye, and Nicola-Maria Tembo, the exhibition brings together intimate installations exploring personal memory, lineage, and remembrance through art.

Join us in listening, remembering, and witnessing each of these offerings.
