Action Against Hunger in partnership with the Local Authority, the Victim Support Unit (VSU), and Gender stakeholders, conducted community engagement meetings in Monze district to raise awareness and strengthen collective action against digital Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as part of the global campaign.

Together with traditional leaders, community members, leaders, teachers, and school pupils, in Hamapande, we facilitated powerful, inclusive discussions through dialogue, education, and shared experiences focused on;
โœ… Addressing the realities of digital violence and online harassment,
โœ… Promoting safe, responsible use of digital platforms for community coordination and access to climate and agricultural information,
โœ… Strengthening reporting mechanisms and access to survivor support services,
โœ… Empowering women and girls to safely access information and digital platforms without fear of harassment, abuse, or discrimination ensuring their full and equal participation in climate-resilient livelihoods and community development.
โœ… Community led actions to protect the rights and dignity of women and girls

This engagement reinforced a fundamental truth, ending GBV is everyoneโ€™s responsibility. When institutions and communities stand together, and when communities are informed, united, and empowered, silence is broken and real change begins.

By involving leaders, educators, and young people, we are nurturing a generation that is informed, values respect, equality, and digital safety.

๐ŸŒ Digital platforms hold tremendous potential helping farmers access markets, weather updates, early-warning alerts, training, and input vouchers. Women and girls increasingly depend on these tools for agriculture coordination, learning, and communication. Yet many continue to face online harassment, scams, impersonation, bullying, and exploitation.

These digital forms of GBV not only undermine confidence but also limit their participation and restrict access to information and life-changing opportunities.

๐ŸคTogether, we can protect every girl, every woman, and every community member online.

๐ŸŒฑ At Action Against Hunger, we champion the safe and responsible use of digital platforms for our beneficiaries, our staff, and every community we serve. We believe that, when women and girls are safe online, communities thrive.

๐Ÿƒ Building Climate-Resilient Communities, One Farmer at a Time

This week, Action Against Hunger Zambia kicked off Phase 3 of the Climate Adaptation Seeds of Hope Programme, starting where it matters mostโ€”with stakeholder and community engagement sessions, alongside the distribution of certified legume seed varieties to smallholder farmers.

Through our strategic partnership with Good Nature Agro , our target smallholder farmers will benefit from:

๐ŸŒพ Certified climate-resilient seed varieties
๐Ÿ“˜ Tailored training in improved legume production
๐Ÿค Guaranteed markets and assured offtake
๐Ÿ“ฑ Digital farmer registration for transparency and efficiency
๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Farmer field geo-mapping to guide data-driven decision-making
โœ”๏ธ A Lead Farmer Model that spreads knowledge to more follower farmers
๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ Women and youth inclusion, promoting equitable access to opportunities

These innovations strengthen climate resilience, enhance productivity, and connect farmers to reliable markets, ensuring more secure and sustainable livelihoods across our communities.

๐ŸŒฑ Strengthening Ownership & Sustainability

A key foundation of the Seeds of Hope Programme is community ownership. Farmers are fully involved in the entire process from planning to production and contribute through:

๐Ÿ”น Farmer down payments that build commitment and reinforce programme value
๐Ÿ”น Active labour contributions throughout the production cycle
๐Ÿ”น Strong adherence to Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) for resilient, sustainable farming
๐Ÿ”น Continuous learning, with farmers engaging in trainings and mentorship from Lead Farmers

These contributions not only enhance sustainability but ensure that farmers truly own the programme, building long-term resilience and stronger local food systems.

๐Ÿ“ This season, we aim to reach over 1800 farming households in selected districts of Northern, eastern and western provinces supporting climate-smart livelihoods at scale.

๐ŸŽค โ€œThis programme gives us confidence to face the planting season,โ€ shared one of the farmers during the engagement meetings. โ€œKnowing that there is a guaranteed market motivates us even more.โ€

From drought recovery to strengthening local food systems, Seeds of Hope is empowering farmers with the tools, skills, and market linkages they need to adapt, thrive, and build resilience in the face of climate change.

Together, we are sowing the seeds of resilience, opportunity, and a hunger-free future.

๐ŸŒฑPromoting Sustainable Farming with Organic Fertilizer โ€“ Bokashi Production.

๐ŸคAs part of our commitment to climate-smart and sustainable agriculture, Action Against Hunger in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and with funding support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), through the CREATE Project implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fรผr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, conducted on-site training in Bokashi production in Munyama and Sikasiwa.

๐Ÿ“š Through this training, lead farmers and other smallholder farmers in Pemba and Monze districts gained practical hands-on skills in producing Bokashi, which they will cascade to their farming plots.

Bokashi is an organic fertilizer made through fermentation of locally available materials.

Why Bokashi?
โœ… Cost-effective โ€“ Bokashi is produced using locally available materials, making it affordable for smallholder farmers.
โœ… Soil health & fertility โ€“ improves soil structure, and enhances crop growth
โœ… Environmentally friendly โ€“ enhances crop productivity while protecting the environment.
โœ… Sustainable farming โ€“ promotes long term soil health, lowers production cost while promoting resilient food systems.

๐ŸŒฑ By promoting organic fertilizers like Bokashi, we are empowering smallholder farmers to improve productivity, reduce input costs, and adopt environmentally friendly practices that safeguard their livelihoods and ecosystems.

๐Ÿ’ชEmpowering Local Champions for Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods in Monze and Pemba districts.

Many smallholder farmers in Southern Province continue to face severe climate shocks droughts, poor harvests, and growing food insecurity. Limited knowledge of climate-smart agriculture and financial literacy has made it difficult for them to adapt, invest, and build resilient livelihoods.

๐ŸคIn response, Action Against Hunger, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Community Development, has successfully conducted a one-week Training of Trainers (ToT) in Climate-Smart Agriculture and Financial Literacy, held at the Farmer Training Centre (FTC) in Monze district.

๐Ÿ“ŒThrough this initiative, Lead Farmers and Extension Officers from Monze and Pemba districts were equipped with practical skills and knowledge to become local champions of climate resilience, empowering their communities to better adapt to and mitigate climate-induced shocks and stresses.

๐Ÿ“šThe trainings emphasized the importance of Climate-Smart Agriculture in enhancing productivity through sustainable and adaptive farming practices. They also underscored the value of financial literacy particularly in budgeting, saving, and planning to build resilient livelihoods, ensuring that farmers not only increase their yields but also manage their income effectively for long-term stability.

๐ŸŒฑAs part of ACFโ€™s drought response interventions under the GIZ supported CREATE Project, the initiative also included strengthening the capacity of local seed growers ensuring improved access to quality seed for one of the projectโ€™s key value chains (cowpeas).

Together๐Ÿค, we are sowing knowledge, growing resilience and creating a sustainable future.
