A storm is brewing in some mosques across Zambia this Ramadan. Worshippers are questioning why Muslims are being asked to pay a certain amount to receive iftar hampers, when sadaqah and zakat are meant to be given freely for the sake of Allah.

Community members say Islam does not allow anyone to block or commercialize charity meant for the needy. “How can someone charge people for zakat?” one concerned worshipper asked.

Others say the spirit of giving should not only appear in Ramadan but throughout the year. Meanwhile, many Muslims have also expressed gratitude to anonymous well-wishers who are quietly visiting different masjids and randomly giving cash and support to those in need during this blessed month.

Still, some beneficiaries say they prefer not to be photographed or publicized when receiving help, urging organizers to respect dignity while helping the community.

As the debate grows, many believers are calling for transparency, fairness, and a return to the true spirit of Ramadan charity.

Feel Fresh drinks seized in Petauke's Showgrounds area have been declared safe for human consumption by Petauke Town Council.

The drinks were confiscated on January 20, 2026, due to poor hygiene and operating a business in a residential area.

The council took samples to the Food and Drugs Laboratory, which confirmed they're safe to drink.

However, Alf.G.Mar Company Limited has been charged for violating public health regulations. The council will keep inspecting businesses to ensure they meet health standards .
