On 26th May 2026, AFSA officially launched My Food is African: Volume 2 — How Citizens Are Reclaiming African Food Systems, the latest edition of the Barefoot Guide series.
As one of the AFSA members implementing the My Food is African (MFIA) campaign, ReSCOPE is proud to be part of this growing continental movement that is reclaiming African food systems through agroecology, indigenous knowledge, territorial markets, and food sovereignty.
This powerful guide brings together real stories from farmers, journalists, activists, market traders, chefs, researchers, and communities across 50 African countries showcasing how citizens are organising and defending Africa’s food systems from the ground up.

The My Food is African movement began in 2022 with four simple but powerful words spoken by young Zambian activist Juliet Nangamba: “My food is African.” Today, the campaign is active in 11 countries and continues to grow.
We remain committed to promoting food sovereignty, farmer-managed seed systems, agroecology, and community-led advocacy that strengthens healthy, diverse, and culturally appropriate African food systems.
