Across Zambia, the difference between urban and rural access to water, sanitation, and hygiene remains significant.

Many rural households still rely on unsafe water sources and lack basic sanitation, increasing the risk of WASH-related diseases and limiting opportunities, especially for women and children.

Through our work, iSanitize is helping bring essential WASH resources closer to the communities that need them most, but more support is needed to create lasting change.

Community leaders, including volunteers, health workers and local committees, play a key role in improving both uptake and sustainability of health interventions. Local leadership helps ensure that solutions reflect real needs, build trust and encourage long-term behaviour change.

Through our work, iSanitize supports inclusive, community-driven approaches that place people at the centre of health solutions.

Data plays a powerful role in improving WASH, but only when it reflects real community experiences. User-centred monitoring approaches highlight the importance of making data accessible, actionable and relevant to those making decisions at district and community levels.

Improving community-level data practices can support more effective planning and help ensure that WASH services reach those who need them most.

Labour Day is a moment to honour the workforce that powers our nation and to reflect on the systems that support them.

With a focus on securing Zambia’s future of work, this year’s theme reminds us of the importance of protecting livelihoods, investing in skills development, and ensuring long-term security through strong social protections.

A better future of work is one where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Happy Labour Day.

Today, we honour the life and legacy of Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda, Zambia’s founding President and a symbol of unity.

His leadership laid the foundation for a nation built on the values of equality and togetherness. As we commemorate Kenneth Kaunda Day, we remember his enduring message of love, humility and service to others.

May his legacy continue to inspire generations to build a stronger, more united Zambia.

Vaccines have protected generations, and they continue to protect our future. This World Immunization Week, under the theme “For every generation, vaccines work,” we are reminded of the life-saving power of immunisation.

In Zambia, vaccines play a critical role in preventing diseases such as polio, cholera, cervical cancer (HPV) and malaria. Yet, misinformation and gaps in access still leave many at risk.

Strengthening community awareness and trust in healthcare goes hand in hand with improving immunisation outcomes. Together, we can ensure no one is left behind.

Sustainable hygiene is about protecting both people and the environment. Practices like responsible waste disposal, water conservation and the use of reusable hygiene products can make a lasting difference in communities with limited resources.

When our people are equipped with the right knowledge and tools, they can adopt practices that are not only effective today, but sustainable for the future. Through our work, iSanitize continues to promote solutions that are both practical and environmentally responsible.

This Earth Day calls on all of us to recognise the power we hold in shaping a more sustainable future. This year’s theme “Our Power, Our Planet” is a reminder that collective action starts with individual responsibility.

Challenges such as water scarcity, waste management, and climate impacts continue to affect the daily lives of Zambians. By promoting sustainable WASH practices and responsible use of resources, we can reduce these pressures and build a better future. At iSanitize, we believe that when communities take action together, real and lasting change becomes possible.

Improving WASH and MHM access doesn’t just prevent physical illness. It improves the mental well-being of communities by restoring dignity and reducing stigma.

By strengthening community hygiene systems and awareness, iSanitize helps create environments where people feel respected and supported, because true wellness begins with both healthy environments and empowered people.
