Empowering girls, shaping the future ✨

On Thursday in Kanakantapa, we gathered as women and girls to learn, share, and uplift one another. We spoke about menstruation, the importance of abstinence, and staying focused on education as a foundation for a brighter future. It was beautiful to see women encouraging and guiding young girls to stay focused and believe in what they can become. 💛

Our gratitude and many thanks goes to you all for supporting our Child Marriage Intervention program.

Through your support we had a joyful day at the children's year end Christmas party. They delivered beautiful performances of various songs, creative poems, a sketche, preaching, and dances. The children enjoyed every bit of the celebration as they were also awarded certificates of achievement.

Also in attendance were the children's parents and guardians, whom we shared a light moment throughout the day and the musical chairs game they participated in.

Once again, we say thank you for always standing with us in the fight against child marriage.

Happy Holidays.

A stellar poem…

Was the highlight of our Girls Mentorship Graduation ceremony that took place on Friday 14th November 2025 at Nkhomesha Primary School located in Kanakantapa Chongwe.

The poem was creatively written and performed by the mentees with the guidance of our project staff. In attendance for this celebration were the village and community leaders, teachers and members of staff of Nkhomesha Primary School, parents of the mentees, 2024 and 2023 mentees from Antioch South Primary School and Evergreen Primary School, and of course the stars of the show, the 2025 mentees from Nkomesha Primary School.

A big congratulations to the 2025 mentees. Umi is proud of you. 👏🏾

The Gift of Sight for Blessings: Your Support Can Change a Life

There is a remarkable young girl named Blessings (Kampasa area, Meanwood Ndeke) whose story calls us to compassion and action. Blessings is 15 years with so much potential and enjoys spending time at our community library. Unfortunately, her eyesight stands as an obstacle between her and the dreams she cherishes.

Blessings first underwent eye surgery in 2014 when she was 4 years old, resulting in her receiving artificial lenses to help with her sight. However, as the years have passed, Blessings’ struggles have persisted. Now, once again, she needs urgent surgical intervention—the doctors have determined that another operation is necessary before she can be prescribed the glasses that could finally bring her the clear vision she desperately needs.

In early 2025, Blessings joined Umi Foundation, under the library project called the Read and Learn Project, an initiative designed to nurture a love of reading, creativity, and education among young people in Lusaka and Chongwe.

Our social services team took a closer look into her circumstances, after observating her struggle to read. They arranged consultations at a leading eye hospital in Lusaka, the specialists conducted thorough examinations and concluded that another surgery was necessary. The cost, however, is significant for Blessings and her family. The procedure requires K3,000—a sum that is beyond the reach of many families in our community.

With your support , we can give Blessings the gift of clear vision and a brighter future . EVERY KWACHA COUNTS❤️
