Health Care Foundation Zambia (HCFZ) is set to dedicate fourth quarter of 2026 to correction of presbyopia among affected people living on below USD 2 per day in Kitwe, Kalulushi, Lusaka, Chongwe, Chilanga, Chibombo, Solwezi, Mpulungu, Nakonde and Choma districts.

Against this background, Kitwe and Kalulushi districts received their first fourth quarter 2026 consignment of pairs of reading glasses on Sunday 13th September 2026.

Therefore, all people aged 35 years and above having problems to read small text messages and the Bible or difficulties to thread the needle, sort out small stones from food stuff like kapenta and beans, should be on the lookout for the ongoing community mobilisation activities and subsequent free eye screening camps being conducted by our trained HCFZ/VisionSpring Reading Glasses for Improved Livelihoods Program implemention volunteers.

September is the last month of the 3rd quarter of each year.

This is a month of enhanced service to community by Health Care Foundation Zambia (HCFZ). This is because it is also the month when we celebrate the birth of the Principal Founder of HCFZ.

Therefore, communities are urged to be on the lookout for a series of Community Health Outreach Activities (CHOA) ranging from free eye screening to free diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure) and cancers, among other Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) diagnostic screening, education and prevention services taking place.

In Lusaka, our team today is carrying out these activities in Chamba Valley at the premises of the Evangelical Church in Zambia where the midlands women's Conference is taking place. See you there.

OUR READING GLASSES FOR IMPROVED LIVELIHOODS PROGRAM IS A GAME CHANGER:

There is nothing that gives us great satisfaction as compared to empowering and improving lives of the Zambian people, consequently putting a smile on their faces.

THE NEW VISIONSPRING AFRICA PROGRAMS MANAGER PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON HEALTH CARE FOUNDATION ZAMBIA.

Health Care Foundation Zambia (HCFZ) was privileged to receive Ms. Ruth Mugo, the VisionSpring, Africa Programs Manager, who paid a courtesy call on the Office of the HCFZ Executive Director, Mr. Thom D. Yung'ana on Monday 24th August 2026.

Ms. Mugo who is undertaking familiarization visits to VisionSpring partner Organisations as she settles down in Zambia from Kenya, was accompanied by Mr. Chanda Chileshe, the VisionSpring, Reading Glasses for Improved Livelihoods Program (RGIL) Coordinator and Global Training Lead, Ms. Gift Musenge, the VisionSpring, Program LEAS, and Mr. Oliver Gerald, the VisionSpring, Business Specialist.

Mr. Yung'ana welcomed Ms. Mugo and her entourage to HCFZ Offices, and Zambia in general.

Mr. Yung'ana briefed Ms. Mugo and her entourage on the current status of the national wide HCFZ volunteer network performance, and HCFZ community activities. He further briefed Ms. Mugo on the current status of the RGIL program implemention, including challenges being faced as well as new strategies being explored to the benefit of both the vulnerable people in communities living on less than USD 2 per day and the implementing HCFZ volunteers.

In response, Ms. Mugo, with the support of the VisionSpring Zambia Team, through Mr. Chileshe who is responsible for the RGIL program in Zambia, pledged VisionSpring's continued willingness to continue in partnership with HCFZ, and working hand in hand to improve and expand the implemention of the RGIL program by HCFZ; to the benefit of both the Zambian people suffering from presbyopia, and HCFZ implementing volunteers.

Come 1st September 2026, Health Care Foundation Zambia (HCFZ) in partnership with VisionSpring will be introducing new Reading Glasses for Improved Livelihoods (RGIL) Program implementation guidelines aimed at enhancing and sustaining eye healthcare service provision, and improved livelihoods of victims of presbyopia living on less USD 2 per day, on one hand, and HCFZ volunteer members providing a service, on the other hand.

Therefore, members of the community suffering from presbyopia, a condition characterised by difficulties to see nearby objects and read small text messages, are encouraged to identify our HCFZ volunteers living in their respective communities, and benefit from the RGIL program.

15TH JUNE IS A WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY.

June is the month in which the global community observes the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) that falls on 15th June of each year.

The WEAAD was officially launched by the United Nations through the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Network for the Prevention of Abuse (INPEA) after realising that older adults are usually victims of neglect and abuse by family members, societies, institutions and some governments.

Against this background, Health Care Foundation Zambia (HCFZ) will be conducting community activities to voice out opposition to the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of older people during this year's WEAAD.

The official global colour to be used by all those in solidarity with older adults, on their attires, ribbons and community displays is purple. Purple represents wisdom, dignity and independence.

Therefore, join us in building stronger supports for older adults (elders).
