What are you after?
I Corinthians 1:[22] For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; NKJV
Exodus 4:[1] Then Moses answered and said, “But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ” NKJV
My gracious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, grant me the spirit of believing in you without asking for any evidence. Lord, I seek no further proof that you have nothing else but love for me. May the Holy Spirit help me to grow more in believing in you. I pray in Jesus's name, amen.
It is a blessing to believe in Jesus without the presence of any miracles. There is one evidence that will last forever, and that is the Cross. We need no other evidence, we seek no other miracle, and we should preach no other gospel. The Cross is all we have and is all we need. It is not about the correctness of our church doctrines. It is not about the accuracy of the prophecies we make. It is not about the movement of our lives from poverty to prosperity, it is all about the Cross.
The children of Israel witnessed the ten plagues that hit Egypt. If Pharaoh had believed Moses's message to let Israel go, the tenth plague would have been avoided. Unbelief is the worst thing to have more than witchcraft. Why have we become servants of miracle seekers? Because our gospel is leaning on evidence more than belief, we now suffer from part time worship. When I want marriage, I put more effort in paying tithes and other religious stuff sprayed on us. When I seek employment, I make promises to do this and that. Our minds are full of corruption, hence the world has caught the disease.
My brethren, the world is not short of riches, the evidence is there. Follow with me as we look at Jacob's life. We can call him names as we are so fond of doing, even in our generation. A generation of name callers. Jacob was on the run from the sin he committed against Esau. Yet, God opened the heavens at Luz and played a vision. Did Jacob pray for this miracle? He worked for Laban, his uncle, for many years he never prayed for an increase in his share of the animals. God came in and gave him an idea on how to do it. That night when he remained alone, an angel paid him a visit and he wrestled with him all-night. He only knew it was an angel later. Did he pray for a change of name? No, he only believed for a special blessing and wouldn't let go off.
Hear what Jesus said about believing without seeing; John 20:[29] Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” NKJV.
Preachers of the gospel, what are we after? Is it our fame or spreading the gospel of the Cross. Is it about our legacies, during my term of office, I achieved this and that. I managed to paint the security wall around the church, and yet, orphans slept without food among your congregants. May the Holy Spirit lead me to the Cross. When Jesus was walking the streets of the Middle East, the world did not change. Neither did the 39 recorded miracles he performed change the world. The world saw that something had happened only when the Cross was lifted high. It was the Cross and it is still the Cross that makes the difference.
