: Viral letters claiming that the Presidential Legal Advisor, Mr. Christopher L. Mundia, issued directives to Parliament and the Electoral Commission of Zambia are not authentic. iVerify Zambia reviewed the circulating documents and found multiple inconsistencies, including the absence of official letterheads and official stamps typically used in communication from the Office of the President. Mr. Mundia has also publicly refuted the claims and dismissed the letters as false. As Zambia approaches the 2026 General Elections, misleading publications and fabricated documents risk undermining public trust, fueling political tension, and spreading disinformation. Always verify information before sharing.

The viral claim that the Chief Justice of the Republic of Zambia Dr. Mumba Malila resigned on 7 May 2026, is false. There is no credible evidence that Chief Justice Dr. Mumba Malila resigned from office on 7 May 2026. iVerify Zambia reviewed the viral document and identified several signs of fabrication, including the use of the “Office of the President” letterhead instead of the official Judiciary letterhead, inconsistencies in the format, and a questionable signature. The Judiciary has officially dismissed the claim as false and warned the public against spreading misinformation and forged documents online. As Zambia approaches the 2026 General Elections, fake documents targeting public institutions risk undermining public trust, fueling political tension, and misleading citizens. Always verify information before sharing.

On 29 March 2026, a post by the Smart Eagles page alleged that the United Party for National Development (UPND) reported Malambo independent candidate Faith Lungu Bury to police for assisting flood victims.

But this is yet another false claim posted on social media that is not supported by official records. Read more on what we found out.

Fake! No Announcement nor Evidence of Edgar Lungu Burial Plans

A Facebook post published by Malawi24, a Malawi-based media page, alleged that the former president’s family intends to hold a burial in Lusaka on June 5, 2026. The claim was attributed to Zambia Watchdog, which had published a similar post on its page on March 24, 2026.

Other pages also shared the same claim. The claim was also shared with iVerify for verification.

But this is FALSE. Read more on the findings

The claim that former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu will be buried in Lusaka on June 5, 2026, is not supported by any credible or official source. It originated from social media posts which did not provide verifiable evidence or cite authoritative sources for the alleged announcement. Crucially, dir...

✅MISLEADING : ZNS Commander not ‘In Trouble’ old video shows detention of trucks containing Mukula logs

A page called The Candidate posted a video claiming that Zambia National Service (ZNS) Commander, Maliti Solochi, is in trouble after exposing alleged Mukula smuggling, which is allegedly linked to Sikale Wood and State House officials. The post also alleges that senior officials pressured him to stop impounding trucks and that checkpoints were removed to allow the illegal export of Mukula logs.

iVerify Zambia fact-checked the claim by reviewing the video and found it was originally posted on 20 August 2022 by Zambia National Service (ZNS). In the video, the commander confirms that six trucks carrying Mukula logs were impounded at Katima Mulilo Border Post in Sesheke District after failing to produce the required documentation.

The footage does not mention State House officials or removed checkpoints. It rather shows enforcement action against trucks transporting Mukula logs without proper documentation.

Therefore, the claim is misleading, as it is based on an old video taken out of context and combines unverified allegations with outdated content presented as recent, creating a false impression about current events.

Fact Check: Broadcast Levy Does Not Propose a K100,000 Penalty, but “100,000 Penalty Units”

iVerify Zambia fact-checked and found as misleading Mr Kasonde Mwenda’s claim regarding the financial cost of the penalty units.

While it is true that the draft Broadcast Levy Statutory Instrument for the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) Act No. 26 of 2025 proposes an administrative penalty of 100,000 units for failure to pay the prescribed monthly Broadcast Levy, the claim that this amounts to K100,000 is misleading.

FALSE: No Dissolution of Zambian Parliament in March 2026

🚨“Zambia for All 2026” page claimed on March 2, 2026, that President Hakainde Hichilema had dissolved Parliament with immediate effect and later issued an apology, sharing what it presented as a State House press release.

❌But it is FALSE that President Hakainde Hichilema dissolved Parliament or issued an apology.
📜Apart from numerous flaws in the features of the letterhead, Article 81(1) cited in the fake press release refers to the term of Parliament, not the powers of the President to dissolve Parliament.

Further, this claim appears on a platform with questionable credibility and a documented record of publishing misleading or unverified information...

✅FALSE: Minister Jack Mwiimbu not Hospitalized, Viral AI image is a Hoax

On February 28, 2026, a page called “Zambia for All 2026” published a post which stated, “Information reaching us is that Jack Mwiimbu may not survive the night. Let’s pray for him.”

The post included an image of a purported Jack Mwiimbu on oxygen support in what appeared to be a health facility setting.
