MIWOZ Commends Zambians for Peaceful Participation in the 2026 Elections
AS the Media Initiative for Women in Zambia (MIWOZ), we wish to commend and thank all Zambians who turned out in large numbers to exercise their civic and democratic right to vote during the 2026 General Election.
We congratulate President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election, as well as all Members of Parliament and Councillors who have been elected to serve their respective constituencies and communities. We wish them wisdom, humility and commitment as they take on the responsibility entrusted to them by the people of Zambia.
We equally commend all candidates who participated in the elections, including those who, for one reason or another, did not emerge victorious. Participation in the democratic process is, in itself, an important contribution to our nation's democracy. Every candidate, regardless of the outcome, played a role in giving citizens choices and strengthening democratic participation.
As we now move beyond the electoral period, MIWOZ calls on all Zambians to put the elections behind us and remain united as one people and one nation. Political differences should not divide families, communities, workplaces or friendships. We may support different political parties and hold different opinions, but we remain bound together by our shared identity and our common aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous Zambia.
We urge all Zambians to continue contributing, in their different capacities, towards national development. Whether through our professions, businesses, communities, civil society organisations, the media or other forms of civic engagement, each of us has a role to play in building the Zambia we want.
We also encourage those who have been elected to remember that leadership is a responsibility and a call to service. We look forward to leaders who will uphold democratic values, listen to the people, promote inclusiveness and work for the development and wellbeing of all Zambians, regardless of political affiliation.
To every Zambian who participated in this democratic process, we thank you. We particularly commend the people of Zambia for demonstrating, once again, the importance of peaceful participation and for allowing our differences to be expressed through the ballot rather than through violence.
As MIWOZ, our commitment remains to promoting inclusive civic participation, democratic governance, respect for human rights and a peaceful civic space where every Zambian can contribute to national development.
The elections may be over, but the work of building our nation continues.
Let us remain united in our diversity, respect one another, and continue working together for a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Zambia.
