The sessions emphasized that strong controls are essential not only for preventing errors and fraud, but also for ensuring reliability and accountability in financial systems.
The training further highlighted the importance of quality assurance and compliance, reinforcing the need for complete audit trails, consistent documentation, and continuous monitoring. Participants gained insights into maintaining audit readiness through disciplined processes and aligning financial management with sustainability and resource mobilization efforts. • Build a culture of accountability and transparency within their institutions
As the training progresses, the focus now moves toward internal controls, risk management, and audit readiness further strengthening the capacity of administrators and accountants to manage resources with excellence and integrity.

DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS – FQMS Workshop
Day One of the Financial Quality Management Systems (FQMS) workshop focused on strengthening practical financial management and compliance systems. Administrators and Accountants from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Botswana.
Participants engaged in a session on Strategic Use of ERP Data, exploring how financial data can support planning, track spending patterns, identify cost drivers, and improve decision-making, while emphasizing data accuracy and reliability.
The session on Church vs Tax Compliance (Zambia) provided clarity on tax exemption requirements, highlighting the importance of proper documentation, governance, and disciplined financial reporting supported by real case studies from the SADC region.
In Resource Mapping and Sustainability Strategies, the facilitator identified funding opportunities within communities and examined ways to improve efficiency, reduce wastage, and strengthen long-term financial sustainability.
The day concluded with Employment and Contracts, focusing on compliance requirements and practical case studies to enhance understanding of legal and administrative responsibilities.
Overall, the sessions provided practical tools to improve financial accountability, compliance, and sustainability across institutions.

MAKENI, ZAMBIA—19 FEBRUARY 2026,
The Salesians of Don Bosco marked a significant milestone with the official groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Academic Wing of the Don Bosco Institute of Higher Education in Makeni. The ceremony was presided over by Rev. Fr. Innocent Bizimana, Regional Superior for the Southeast Africa Region, during his Extraordinary Visitation.
The Academic Wing, once completed, will serve not only the Salesian community but will also be open to the public, expanding access to quality, values-based higher education for young people and professionals in Makeni and beyond. This development reflects the Institute’s commitment to inclusivity, community engagement, and national human capital development.
The ceremony was conducted in the presence of the project contractors and members of the post-novitiate community. Their participation highlighted the collaborative nature of the initiative bringing together leadership, technical expertise, and the formation community that embodies the continuity of Don Bosco’s educational mission.
The groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of a new phase in the growth of the Don Bosco Institute of Higher Education. As construction of the Academic Wing commences, the project stands as a concrete sign of hope and opportunity, strengthening higher education provision in Makeni and reaffirming the Salesians’ enduring commitment to youth, learning, and the wider community.
