🌍 YWAC Week 2: From Identifying Problems to Designing Solutions
Our Youth WASH Ambassadors are proving that change begins with understanding our communities.
This week, Amanda Nalute from Kalingalinga (Ward 36, Lusaka) completed her Community Assessment & Innovation Assignment by investigating local WASH challenges and developing a practical youth-led solution.
Through community observations and conversations with residents, Amanda identified two key issues:
🗑️ Poor solid waste management leading to garbage accumulation in residential areas.
💧 Stagnant wastewater creating unhealthy conditions and potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
After engaging community members and reviewing available evidence, she proposed **"Kalingalinga Eco-Drain & Clean" — a social enterprise idea that combines affordable household waste collection with simple drainage improvements to reduce environmental and public health risks.
What makes this assignment exciting is that it moves beyond identifying problems and challenges young people to design sustainable, community-driven solutions.
Week 2 assignments are coming in, and we are encouraged by the creativity, innovation, and commitment being demonstrated by our young ambassadors. The future of WASH leadership is bright when young people are empowered to observe, think critically, and act.
