📚🇿🇲 A Historic Milestone for Education in Zambia 🇿🇲📚

Yesterday, the Founder and Executive Director of Inclusive Education for Sustainable Development -IESD , Ms Ruth C Nawakwi had the privilege of attending the Presidential Assent Ceremony where His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema signed the Education Amendment Bill of 2026 into law, permanently protecting Free Education in Zambia.

As an organization dedicated to advancing inclusive education and sustainable development, IESD recognizes this achievement as one of the most transformative and progressive reforms in Zambia's education sector. The enactment of Free Education into law strengthens access to learning opportunities for all children, including learners with disabilities and those from vulnerable communities.

Beyond attending this historic event, IESD remains committed to adding value by supporting advocacy, awareness creation, and stakeholder engagement to ensure that the benefits of Free Education reach every corner of Zambia.

We commend President Hakainde Hichilema and the Government of the Republic of Zambia for demonstrating that intentional reforms and people-centered policies can deliver meaningful results for citizens.

Free Education is now law. Together, let us ensure that every child is enrolled, supported, and empowered through education, the greatest equalizer in life.

At IESD, we acknowledge that while this is a significant achievement, more work remains to be done to improve quality, inclusivity, infrastructure, and support systems across the education sector. We stand ready to contribute to this national agenda.

One of the highlights of the Education Fair & Career Expo 2026, held on 29th May 2026 at Lusaka Girls Secondary School, was the Teacher Motivation and Learners Awards Ceremony.
