PEACE IS EASY TO VALUE, IT TAKES RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT IT.

CRAFT Africa continues with the second part of another 14-Day Peace, People & Planet nexus as a practical civic conversation exploring how everyday choices contribute to peaceful, just, environmentally responsible and resilient communities.

"We begin with one simple action: Think Before You Share".

In an age where information can travel faster than verification, responsible communication matters. Check the source, Confirm the facts, Consider the impact, and then Share responsibly.

Over the next 14 days, the journey will gradually connect peace and responsible citizenship with justice, water, climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, environmental stewardship, inclusion and community action.

This approach reflects the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16, which advances peaceful and inclusive societies, justice and accountable institutions. It also aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which envisions both a peaceful and secure Africa and environmentally sustainable, climate-resilient economies and communities.

Throughout the journey, one practical question to guide us ramains "What can I do today where I am to leave my community more peaceful, responsible and resilient than I found it?"

THINK BEFORE YOU SHARE

In today's digital world, information travels faster than ever before. A message shared in seconds can reach thousands of people within minutes. While this creates opportunities for learning and connection, it also places a responsibility on each of us to ensure that the information we share is accurate, responsible, and constructive.

Not every message, image, video, voice note, or social media post reflects the truth. Unverified information can create fear, damage reputations, fuel unnecessary tensions, divide communities, and weaken public trust.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has consistently emphasized the importance of media and information literacy as a critical tool for promoting peace, democracy, and informed citizenship. Likewise, the African Union's Agenda 2063 recognizes informed and responsible citizens as essential to building peaceful and prosperous societies.

Before sharing information, ask yourself:

✓ Is the source credible?
✓ Has the information been verified?
✓ Am I sharing facts or assumptions?
✓ Could this message create unnecessary fear or division?
✓ Does this contribute positively to my community and country?

In moments of uncertainty, responsible communication becomes an act of patriotism. Every citizen has the power to either strengthen social cohesion or unintentionally contribute to misunderstanding and conflict.

As Zambia continues to uphold its proud legacy of peace and democracy, let us choose facts over rumours, wisdom over haste, and responsibility over reaction.
