Twins Graduate, Set Sights on Fighting Crime!

IN a country pushing for responsible use of digital platforms under the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act of 2021, twin-sisters Monica and Veronica Nyau are stepping forward with a shared mission: to help make cyberspace safer.

The 26-year-old identical twins from Muchinga Province have officially graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security under the ICT faculty at Kapasa Makasa University in Chinsali.

Their journey began with curiosity and determination in a field often perceived as male-dominated.

What started as basic training and limited knowledge has now grown into a clear purpose using technology to curb cyber abuse, combat online crime, and promote responsible communication in digital spaces.

The Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act of 2021 is a key piece of legislation aimed at tackling internet-related offences and promoting safe use of cyberspace.

It addresses a wide range of cybercrimes, from sophisticated digital attacks to everyday online misconduct. For Monica and Veronica, their studies were not just academic they were a calling.

“We are passionate about ICT, and despite the challenges women face in this field, we have proven that it is possible,” said Veronica, who describes herself as an introvert. “What matters most is the outcome showing that we are capable and can perform just as well as our male counterparts.”

Monica echoed her sister’s sentiments, emphasizing the need to empower more women to enter technology fields.

“Women need to be encouraged to explore and pursue careers in ICT. A girl child who is educated uplifts the whole world,” she said.

Their words echo the wisdom of leaders like Nelson Mandela, who once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Born on March 7, 2000, to Asnelly Lungu Nyau and Alex Nyau, the sisters have turned their shared identity into a shared purpose breaking barriers and building a future in cyber security.

From twins by birth to partners in purpose, Monica and Veronica are proving that impact is stronger when driven together.

It’s Born a Twin.
It’s Beyond Twins.
It’s Monica and Veronica.
