After divorce or nullity, the parties proceed with applications for the sharing of property, custody of children, and the determination of financial obligations to the needy party and to the children of the family.

Sometimes agreement is reached and parties do not have to go to court.

The needs of the parties:the Court balances the needs of the parties and the availability of resources. There must be an objective appraisal of what the applicant subjectively requires to ensure that it is not unreasonable. But the objective appraisal must have regard to such things as:
(a)what is available
(b)the standard of living to which the parties are accustomed
(c) their age and state of health
(d) and perhaps less obviously, the duration of the marriage, the contributions and pension rights of both as affected by the marriage and accrued or likely to accrue.

Today marks International Day for Remembrance of the Slave Trade and it's abolition.

This day reminds us of the struggles, courage, and resilience of those who fought against slavery and paved the way for freedom. It is also a call to reflect on the lasting impact of the Slave Trade and to stand united against racism, injustice and inequality in our world today.

True freedom begins not just with independence from rulers, but with independence of thought, dignity, justice and equality for all. To this day , internal and external slavery exists in various forms.Anyone who exploits the weakness, poverty, good heart , ignorance, or cruelty of another to enrich himself or herself or to lighten his or her own burden is a slave master/mistress.

Stop the Slavery!!!

We commend the Zambia Police Service for the hard work that they are conducting in the fight against crime in our communities. It is appalling to note that despite the effort by the dedicated men in uniform we have been recording an increase in gender based violence cases in Lusaka. Our office in Lusaka is overwhelmed by the number of police referrals made only on marital violence cases,we urge couples to take necessary steps to avoid violent acts. Our offices are available to assist individuals who seek to be advised and further assisted whenever they feel emotionally distressed or abused in their specific unions. Therefore apart from dispute resolutions we are also in partnership with various stakeholders such as the Judiciary, Zambia Police Service, Governmental Ministries,Community Leaders, The Church and our fellow citizens.

Children are one of the most valnerable groups in society from exploitation and other forms of human rights violations. We are glad to work with various collaborative stakeholders in the prevention and protection of children's rights. International principles and our local laws such as the the Constitution of Zambia ,Children Code Act (2022),Juvenile Act and other important legal instruments are enacted to promote and protect the rights of children. It is imparative to note that this realization cannot be achieved without the supportive effort of bodies such as the Judiciary, Zambia Police Service, Social Service Departments, The church and ordinary well meaningful Zambians.Lets love and protect our children from child abuse and other forms of violations.
