This Labour Day, Women Environs Zambia celebrates the strength, resilience, and dedication of women whose labour sustains life itself.

Across our communities, women are farmers, caregivers, environmental stewards, and leaders. They grow our food, protect our natural resources, and hold together the fabric of our societies, often without recognition, fair pay, or support.

We acknowledge that women’s labour is not just work, it is the foundation of food systems, climate resilience, and community wellbeing. Yet too often, it remains invisible and undervalued.

Today, we reaffirm our commitment to advocating for the recognition, protection, and empowerment of women in all spaces of work, especially in environmental and agricultural sectors.

A just future must honour women’s labour.

Happy Labour Day.

🌍✨ Women Environs Zambia at the Women & Land Zimbabwe National Meeting✨🌍

This week, Women Environs Zambia (WEZ) proudly joined sisters in Zimbabwe for the Women & Land in Zimbabwe National Meeting— a powerful space for reflection, solidarity, and action. 💪🏾🌱

The gathering brought together rural women leaders, farmers, activists, and allies to strengthen our collective voice on land rights, climate justice, and food sovereignty. Together, we shared experiences from across Southern Africa, amplifying the call for women’s access to land, resources, and decision-making power.

As WEZ, we stand firm with our sisters in Zimbabwe and across the region in advancing a feminist agroecology and land rights agenda that ensures dignity, equality, and justice for all rural women. 🌾✊🏾

At Women Environs Zambia, we believe that restoring the land starts with empowering the hands that care for it. Through agroecology and feminist grassroots organising, we are reclaiming our right to healthy soil, sustainable food, and climate justice — led by women, for everyone.

We’re honored to be part of the movement spotlighted by Mama Cash. Together, we’re sowing the seeds of resilience, dignity, and environmental justice in Zambia and beyond. 🌾✊🏿

Growing Together, Building Stronger Communities

We’re excited to share that Women Environs is gaining so much from being part of the 36-Month CSO LEADS Program. Recently, some of our team members attended the program’s first networking event and subsequent training and it has been a truly energising experience.

It gave us the chance to talk about the work we’re doing in communities, learn from others, and meet organisations that share our vision. These kinds of connections are powerful in that they help us grow and find new ways to make a real difference.

A big thank you to People in Need for putting together such a meaningful event and training & for their continued support through this program. We’re excited about what’s ahead!

🌱🍽️ From Farm to Fork: The Power of Eating What You Grow! 🍽️🌱

True food sovereignty starts in our own gardens. Today’s lunch plate features delicious red millet nshima, local beans, and a fresh greens (r**e) which are all homegrown! 👩‍🌾👨‍🌾

Why Red Millet?
• Nutrition booster: Rich in protein, fiber, and essential minerals like iron and magnesium.
• Gluten-free & gentle: Perfect for sensitive stomachs and balanced blood sugar.
• Drought-resilient crop: Thrives in dry conditions, helping farmers adapt to climate change.

Cooking and eating the crops we cultivate not only nourishes our bodies but also strengthens our communities and protects our planet. Let’s grow more, waste less, and eat well!

🌱🌾 Kasenga Farm Block Field Day Success! 🌾🌱

Last Friday, WEZ had the honour of participating in the Kasenga Farm Block Field Day in Chongwe district, proudly held under the theme "Adaptation to Climate Change". As part of our commitment to climate-resilient agriculture and agroecology, we showcased local seeds, local produce and localchickens. We held true to the reflection of sustainable farming practices rooted in local knowledge.

We’re thrilled to share that WEZ won 2nd place for our exhibition! 🏆 We received a certificate of recognition from the Hon. Silvia Masebo and had the distinct honour of hosting the Chongwe District Commissioner at our stand. 🌍

At WEZ, we believe that real advocacy starts at the grassroots, building momentum from the community level all the way to district, national, regional, and global platforms. Events like this reaffirm our mission to empower communities to lead in the face of climate change.

Thank you to all who made this event a success. Together, we grow stronger. 💚
