🌱 PELUM Zambia Participates in Regional Women's Assembly Consultative Dialogue in South Africa
From 7th–9th June 2026, PELUM Zambia participated in the Regional Women's Assembly (RWA) Consultative Dialogue held at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, under the theme:
"We Have Answers: Building Resilient Food Systems"
The dialogue brought together women farmers, seed custodians, agroecology practitioners, researchers, and civil society organizations from across Africa to share experiences and solutions for strengthening indigenous seed systems, food sovereignty, agroecology, and climate resilience.
PELUM Zambia contributed to discussions highlighting the importance of indigenous seeds as the foundation of resilient food systems, community well-being, and Africa's sovereignty. The dialogue recognized rural women as key innovators and custodians of seeds, biodiversity, and indigenous knowledge, whose contributions are essential for sustainable agriculture and food security.
Participants called for increased investment in community seed banks, farmer-managed seed systems, agroecological practices, and policies that protect farmers' rights to save, exchange, and preserve indigenous seeds.
The meeting reaffirmed that the solutions to climate change, hunger, and biodiversity loss already exist within our communities. By supporting agroecology, protecting indigenous seeds, and amplifying rural women's leadership, Africa can build resilient, sustainable, and equitable food systems for future generations.
🌾 Seeds are Life. Seeds are Heritage. Seeds are the Future.

🌱 PELUM Zambia at the Regional Women’s Assembly in South Africa
From 7–9 June 2026, we joined women farmers, seed custodians, and agroecology champions at the University of Pretoria for the Regional Women’s Assembly Consultative Dialogue.

Theme: “We Have Answers: Building Resilient Food Systems.”

We shared how indigenous seeds are the foundation of Africa’s food sovereignty, and why rural women are the true custodians of our biodiversity and knowledge. The message was clear: solutions to climate change, hunger, and seed loss already live in our communities. Let’s invest in community seed banks, agroecology, and farmers’ rights to save and share seed. Seeds are Life. Seeds are Heritage.

Seeds are the Future. 🌾
