ZAMBIA TAKES THE REGIONAL STAGE: Mutinta Handondo Elected SADC Youth Representative! 🇿🇲✨
The future of African agriculture is young, diverse, and officially led by one of our very own!
We are overjoyed to announce that during The Africa Regional Youth Summit on Agroecology Business and CAADP in Kampala, Uganda, PELUM Zambia representative Mutinta Handondo was officially elected as the Agroecology Regional SADC Youth Representative! 🏆 Africa regional SADC leadership

This major milestone raises Zambia’s voice to the regional level, ensuring our youth are at the forefront of shaping continental agroecology policies and green business strategies

Reflecting on Day 2 of the summit—a day dedicated to sharing the diverse stories of our agricultural journeys—Mutinta shared a powerful message of unity and collaboration:

"We come from different backgrounds, each one does things in their own way... we are blessed differently and have different experiences and opportunities—let's ride on them." 💚

YOUTH SPOTLIGHT: "We are the Drivers, Not Passengers!" 🇿🇲✈️🇺🇬

Meet Mutinta Handondo, the passionate young farmer who recently represented PELUM Zambia at The Africa Regional Youth Summit on Agroecology Business and CAADP in Kampala, Uganda

Here is Mutinta’s powerful journey, in her own words:

"It is with great pleasure that PELUM Zambia nominated me to represent Zambia at the Africa Regional Youth Summit on Agroecology Business and CAADP Kampala. It has been a very interactive and educative Summit, with representatives from other African Countries.
There was a very interactive panel discussion on 'Scaling up youth-led Agroecological businesses and innovations for resilient food systems (Youth Experience and Story Sharing)'. On this session, my main key takeaways were:
🔑 Networking is key.
🔑 Youths are the drivers and not passengers.
🔑 Take Agroecology as a business.
🔑 Young people are not useless, they are used less.
🔑 The key is to Start, don't wait any longer.
🔑 You are the change that you want to see.
🔑 Be a little crazy about your passion.
🔑 Agriculture is the Oxygen to Mother Earth.
🔑 Do something new and Unique.
🔑 As a youth, don't wait to be called to the table—go to the table yourself!
We had breakout sessions where we learnt about digitalized Agroecology works. Let's use digital to ease our works and let's use the digital opportunities available!"

Mutinta's reflections capture the very heart of the summit’s mission: moving beyond discussions to ensure meaningful youth engagement in policy processes while actively investing in youth-led agroecological enterprises for a healthy and sustainable future.

First National Agroecology Strategy (ZNAS) 2026–2031. Today is all about moving from review to harmonization and action planning.

Our experts and stakeholders have spent the morning in focused sub-groups, diving deep into the strategy's three core pathways:

✅National Framework

✅Knowledge & Learning

✅Farmer-Driven Transformation

We are harmonizing these group outputs to ensure a unified, airtight document ready for ministerial approval.

A critical highlight of this afternoon is the presentation of the National Validation Plan, which will outline how we take this strategy back to the people for final feedback.

Shaping the Future of Zambian Food Systems! 🌿

We are LIVE in Lusaka for Day 1 of the Technical Working Group (TWG) meeting to refine the First National Agroecology Strategy (ZNAS) 2026–2031

Following robust consultations across all 10 provinces, this meeting brings together government ministries, research institutions, academia and civil society leaders to finalize a blueprint that responds to the real-world challenges of climate change and food insecurity.

Led by PELUM Zambia Country Coordinator Muketoi Wamunyima and TWG Chairperson Mr. Joseph Cheelo, we are reviewing every detail to ensure this strategy is farmer-centered and evidence-based.

Our mission is clear: Transitioning Zambia toward a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive model that safeguards our ecosystems while improving livelihoods.
