Today marks the end of the 2 days Local Climate Conference for Youths -LCOY tagged: From Local Action to a Just Global Climate Influence.
The LCOY, which is a national youth pre-conference for the Conference of Parties- COP was convened on the 30th and 31st of July 2026 with a few Webinars prior to the conference, gathering stakeholders from line ministries, NGOs and other implementing partners. Through the conference, UNZAYUNA was privileged to showcase its works on climate education and climate promotion in higher learning institutions through advocacy for SDGs and youth leadership programs. In addition to this, UNZAYUNA was able to feed realtime data on climate challenges, Climate financing, the use of indigenous knowledge and proposed resolutions for combating Zambia's climate crisis through the youth position paper developed during the two days conferences. Among the resolutions shared included;
- Strengthened accountability and transparency for climate financing.
- value acceleration for commodities and youth businesses in the green economy.
- Education on carbon marketing.
- Establishment of community based climate outlets (CBCOs)with a strong youth taskforce.
- The effect of incorporation of indigenous knowledge on climate change into educational curricula.
As an implementing partner and a student lead organization, UNZAYUNA commits to continued efforts in capacity building activities, creation of spaces and connecting youths in higher learning institutions to information and opportunities that enable them to participate in both national and international matters that support and promote SDG, youth leadership and the overall wellbeing of the country. Through its Public Lectures, Webinars and many other activities,UNZAYUNA further stands ready to partner with the government and all implementing partners so as to apply and implement strategies proposed and adopted during the conference.
