PRESS RELEASE
Lancet Report Warns: 500,000 Children Could Die from AIDS-Related Causes by 2030 Without Sustained PEPFAR Support

A recent Lancet article co-authored by our Executive Director, Gibstar Makangila, alongside Dr. Susan Hillis, Prof. Lucie Cluver, Dr. Azadeh Ansari, and other global health experts has raised the alarm about the urgent need to maintain and strengthen funding for PEPFAR.

The report reveals that children are being left behind in the global HIV response, with only 57% of children living with HIV currently on treatment. Without urgent intervention and sustained funding, nearly half a million children could die from AIDS-related causes by 2030.

This critical publication has been quoted globally, referenced in US Congressional hearings, and shared with top decision-makers across the world.

Circle of Hope Zambia is proud to amplify this important advocacy, pushing for a world where no child is left behind in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

WHAT DOES PEPFAR STOP WORK ORDER MEAN FOR COMMUNITIES LIKE OURS ?

This week, our Executive Director, Gibstar Makangila, shared an important perspective with one of the most influential publications in the U.S. about a decision that could deeply impact the work we all hold dear.

At the heart of the conversation is the 'Stop Work Order' issued for PEPFAR USAID-funded programs. For decades, PEPFAR has been a lifeline for millions battling HIV/AIDS, with faith-based organizations like ours playing a critical role in delivering care, hope, and dignity to those who need it most.

But this decision threatens to undo years of progress. Gibstar reflected on the urgency of this issue, saying:
"This is more than just funding; it’s about the lives of mothers, fathers, and children who rely on these programs to survive and thrive. It’s about faith meeting action to heal communities."

We invite you to read the full story and understand why this moment matters so much ;not just to us, but to the countless lives touched by these programs.

Let’s not allow this setback to silence the hope we bring to communities every day. Your support and awareness make all the difference.

A stop in all of PEPFAR’s work shuttered clinics this week. Then, a new exemption for “life-saving” treatment left organizations uncertain.

We are grateful for the opportunity to have participated in the Kick for Greatness girls' football tournament, hosted by UNAIDS Zambia, UNESCO Zambia, and the Racheal Kundananji Legacy Foundation under the Malaika Adolescent Project. The event, held at Bauleni School grounds , created a platform to educate girls on teenage pregnancy, child marriage, sexual gender-based violence, and HIV awareness.

At Circle of Hope Zambia, we remain committed to empowering adolescents and young women and creating safe spaces where they can thrive, grow, and achieve their full potential.
