THE MYSTERY AND UNDERSTANDING OF SPRINKLING THE BLOOD ON THE MERECY SEAT

“11 And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself: 12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail: 13 And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not: 14 And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times. 15 Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat: 16 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness. 17.”

In the precise order of the sacrifice, Aaron first killed the bullock which was the sin-offering to make atonement for his himself and his household. This bullock is for himself and his household. It is imperative to note the closeness between the high priest and his house being” linked together”. In our contemporary world, there are many Christian leaders who have consciously or unconsciously failed to inculcate Christian values into their children, mentees, or household. So there is a clear discrepancy between the children and their Christian parents in terms of character, attributes, values and behaviour in our technologically sophisticated world of today.

This closeness between the high priest and his family is reminiscent of the oneness between the Lord Jesus Christ and His house (the church universal) However, in the case of Aaron, he offered a bullock for sin, for himself and his house: he, himself being a sinner and his house composed of sinners like himself. (see Hebrews 5:3, 7:27, 9:7, 3:2). On the other hand, the Lord Jesus Christ as the Great High priest knew no sin and offered Himself completely on behalf of others.

Aaron, next took the censor, full of the coals of fire from Off the altar before the Lord God and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small and all brought within the vail and put incense upon the fire before the Lord that the cloud of incense might cover the mercy-seat upon the testament so that he may not die. The censor was the golden censor. The golden censor was in the Holy of holies according to Chapter 9 of the Book of Hebrews, where no incense altar is mentioned standing in the Holy place. The cherubim shadowing the mercy-seat are called “the cherubim of glory.” Therefore, on the Day of Atonement, the coals of fire were moved from off the incense altar and the golden sensor being filled with them was carried within the vail. The manifested presence of Jehovah God appeared in the cloud upon the mercy seat- the “cloud of glory.”

Aaron, whose name means “very high”, stood supreme as the high priest. (see Exodus 28:1). Aaron is a “prophetic type” of the Lord Jesus Christ whom God has exalted to be prince and Saviour. (see acts 5:31, Hebrews 4:4, Philippians 2:5-11). Yet Aaron could not enter the Holy of holies with the blood of atonement, unless he could personally, shelter himself under a cloud of incense. The incense was pure and holy according to Exodus 30: 35-37. The frankincense which was one of the ingredients of incense represents “purity”. The word “pure” in this context is the Hebrew word “levohnab” which refers to “divine whiteness”. (see Exodus 30:34, Leviticus 24:7)

This is the divine purity which the Lord Jesus Christ manifested on the cross of Calvary. It was purity and righteousness vivified that the Roman centurion exclaimed: “certainly this was a Righteous man.” (see Luke 23:47). The cloud of incense beaten small ascended up to God, as a sweet-smelling fragrance which convicted that gentile Roman soldier. Grace and truth brought by the Lord Jesus Christ was made manifest to the Roman soldier.

Wherever, Jesus Christ went, true love, sympathy and pity flowed from His heat towards the weak, the weary, and the afflicted. He was a Righteous man in the midst of deceit and falsehood in human beings who thronged Him everywhere. Jesus Christ was true in His affections, His love and in His rebukes of evil as well as in His forgiveness of sin. (see Isaiah 53:9, 2 Peter 2:22). Glory to God and Shalom!

THE MYSTERY OF THE BULLOCK FOR SIN –OFFERING

“ And thou shalt cause a bullock to be brought before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the bullock. And thou shalt kill the bullock before the LORD, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger, and pour all the blood beside the bottom of the altar. And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul that is above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar. But the flesh of the bullock, and his skin, and his dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp: it is a sin offering.” - Exodus 29: 10-14 -KJV (see also Leviticus 8: 14- 17 )

The first offering brought by Moses was the “bullock for the sin-offering.” Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the bullock. The word “laid” has sometimes conveyed the idea of leaning the hand heavily. (see Psalm 88:7)

The priestly house of Aaron had to identify and become acquainted with the sin-offering. Aaron and his household were the first portion of Israel that ever knew an offering for sin. In the earlier dispensation, every sacrifice which had been presented to God had been a burnt offering and even when the covenant was confirmed by the shedding of blood. (see Exodus 24). That blood was procured from burnt offerings and peace offerings. Thus an offering appropriated to sin had never been known until the consecration of priests. (see Exodus 40:12-15)

Aaron and his sons by laying their hands heavily upon the head of the animal, recognized their identification with it, thus transferring their sin from off themselves to the animal (the bullock), which had to bear it. It is like the act of faith when an unbeliever, puts his trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for the first time and believes that his sin has been borne by Christ. (see Romans 10:9-10, 1 John 1:5-7)

Moses then, slaughtered the bullock. Subsequently, death was the result that followed the transfer of sin upon the head of the animal. Death was initiated by the hand of another. This was a type and shadow pointing to Christ’s death. Therefore, Christ suffered at the hands of God. God provided the lamb and “it pleased the Lord to bruise him.” God made his soul (Christ’s soul) an offering for sin.” (see Isaiah 53:1-10)

Prophet Moses next took the blood, putting it on the horns of the altar, roundabout with his finger, thereby purifying the altar and poured the blood at the bottom of altar and sanctified it, in order to make reconciliation upon it.

The action of putting the blood with the finger on the horns of the brazen altar is confined to the blood of the sin-offering. (Leviticus 4:25, 30, 34) This reveals the intimate knowledge of the infinite value of the blood regarding its cleansing power. Moses possessed the “spiritual responsibility and authority” to handle and apply the blood to the horns of the altar. This represents the power and strength of the altar. The blood of the sin-offering alone was poured at the bottom of the altar. (see Exodus 29:12, Leviticus 4:7, 18, 25, 30, 34). The altar was established upon blood, which was the very basis upon which the altar stood.

In Isaiah 53:12, our Lord and Saviour- Christ Jesus poured out soul unto death. Even on the night of His betrayal, He took the cup and gave thanks and gave it to the disciples emphasizing that His blood enacted the new covenant which was shed for many for the remission of sins. (see Matthew 26:27, -28, Mark 14:24, Luke 22:20)

Finally, the three fundamental uses of blood are underscored in Leviticus 8:15; Purification, Sanctification and Consecration.

THE MYSTERY OF THE ALTAR AND THE THRONE

REVELATION 17:5-6

And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
In ancient Babylon, there was a paramount feature or element that is common to all world empires. There was unity between the Throne and the Altar, between the prince and priest.
The pagan priests, astrologers, magicians, soothsayers were the emperor’s closest advisors and the “Mysterious” hidden influence administering the affairs of the empire.

So the woman is Revelation 17:5 is both a secular city and a spiritual entity. Genesis 11:4 speaks of a city and a tower. The city was a political union of the earth’s inhabitants at that time. The tower was a religious enterprise and means of reaching heaven. Through divine insight, we know Satan’s strategic attempt to brainwash and deceive the whole world will consist of three systems that are known to human existence: (1) the political system under the anti-Christ (2) the religious system under the false prophet, (3) the economic system under the mark of the beast.(see Revelation 14:9)
