𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐀𝐓 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭.

We saw adolescents generalised under reproductive health, we advocated for and won a dedicated Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) section. In the process, we packaged and injected solid evidence on adolescent SRHR, and won concrete proposals that include expansion of adolescent-friendly spaces, community health worker training to reach hard-to-reach populations, and social and behavioural change communication specifically targeting young people.

SAT advocacy also strengthened language on gender-responsive programming and gender-responsive planning and budgeting – now both named as concrete policy commitments.

The strengthened policy commitments have the potential to improve health outcomes for more than 3.5 million adolescents across Zambia by expanding access to safer and more responsive health services, improving referrals and support systems, strengthening gender-responsive care, and increasing the availability of adolescent-friendly health spaces and trained health workers.

Strong adolescent health systems are essential for stronger communities, gender equality, and Zambia’s long-term development.

Today is International Workers’ Day 💼👩‍🌾👮‍♀️👩‍⚕️

It’s more than just a public holiday, it’s a reminder that the working world we know today didn’t just happen. Back in 1886, workers in Chicago stood up and demanded fairer hours, pushing for the 8-hour workday instead of exhausting 17-hour shifts. That fight shaped the rights many people benefit from today.

For us young people, this day is also about thinking ahead, the kind of work we want, the conditions we deserve, and the future we’re building. It’s also a moment to recognise how women continue to break barriers across spaces like education, health, business and leadership, showing that progress is possible when opportunities are equal.

So while we celebrate, we also reflect. Fair work, equal pay, safe environments. These are our rights, and they are worth protecting and pushing forward.

SAT Zambia joined government ministries, institutions, and civil society organisations (CSOs) at a public health talk supported by UNFPA Zambia at Cavendish university zambia Long Acres Campus, under the theme: From Awareness to Action: 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐒𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

The programme aimed to create a safe and inclusive space where students could engage directly with experts, deepen their understanding of sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and build practical knowledge to challenge common myths and misinformation.

Key topics included access to safe abortion and post abortion care, access to modern contraceptives (including the morning-after pill), consent, condom use, substance abuse, access to services, and the importance of meaningful youth participation in SRHR conversations.

A diverse group of stakeholders was present to provide credible, accurate information and guidance. These included representatives from the National Prosecution Authority, the MINISTRY OF HEALTH ZAMBIA, the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, SAT, LifeLine/Childline Zambia.

Additional partners in attendance included Marie Stopes, the Drug Enforcement Commission, Cavendish University Zambia Youth Network Association (CUZ YUNA), the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA ), and SAfAIDS Zambia.

The presence of such a wide range of institutions ensured that young people received well-rounded, credible SRHR information from multiple perspectives, strengthening their knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions.

This generation of adolescents will live with the consequences of decisions we weren’t allowed to make.

Young people cannot thrive on a planet that cannot thrive.

Protect the conditions our futures depend on! We need:

• 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐬 - so there is enough food to grow, learn and stay healthy
• 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 - so rivers, lakes and wetlands continue to sustain life
• 𝐀 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 - so our lives aren’t defined by crisis and disruption
• 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 - so ecosystems support livelihoods and communities
• 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 - so community economies and food systems are sustained

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲! 💜 Today we celebrate the strength, creativity and achievements of women and girls everywhere. But it’s also a reminder that the journey to equality isn’t finished yet — especially for young girls.

Across Africa, millions of girls still face barriers to education, safety and opportunities, and nearly 1 in 3 girls will experience violence in their lifetime. Too many are judged for their choices, pushed out of school by pregnancy, or told their dreams are “too big.”

This year’s theme reminds us that real change starts with how we treat each other every day. Supporting girls means sharing the right information, refusing to shame someone for asking about contraception, standing up against sexism, and cheering your friends on when they chase their goals.

Because when girls gain confidence, knowledge and support, they don’t just change their own futures — they help change the world.
