Saturday 1st August 2026. The Kubelenga na Kulima (To Read and Garden) Edwin Mulongoti primary school team of Matero Lilanda community celebrated a remarkable milestone with an educational visit to Munda Wanga Environmental Park, a prize generously sponsored by Butterfly.Butterfly Kids Climate Action Fair 2026 held on the 24th of March 2026.

The visit to Munda Wanga Environmental Park was awarded after Edwin Mulongoti Primary School, supported by Little Miss Intellect Zambia (LMIZ) and Child Youth Intellects for Change (CYIC), won 3rd Prize at the 2026 Butterfly Kids Climate Action Fair. The learners presented a lived-experience storytelling project on their solar water system under the theme "Technology for a Healthier Tomorrow."

The pupils, teachers and youth volunteers enjoyed a guided tour, learning about wildlife conservation, environmental protection and the importance of preserving Zambia's natural heritage. The experience strengthened the children's appreciation of biodiversity and inspired them to continue being environmental champions in their school and community.

Kubelenga na Kulima was born from the Little Miss Intellect Zambia (LMIZ) 2024 Talent Show held at Edwin Mulongoti Primary School under the theme Climate Change Awareness.
In 2025, the initiative evolved into a youth leadership programme that keeps learners engaged beyond the talent show through reading, gardening and environmental stewardship. Together, LMIZ members and pupils established the school's first garden, creating a practical platform for learning and climate action.
The project's impact earned a Special Community Award at the first Butterfly Kids Climate Change Fair in 2025. Building on this success, Kubelenga na Kulima later received a USD 1,500 Japan Water Forum grant, which funded the installation of nine solar panels and a pumpverter, providing reliable water to more than 2,100 pupils and the surrounding school community. In 2026 Njachi Resources installed a tap bringing water closer in the garden scaling up the Kubelenga na Kulima project to increase garden produce.

We sincerely thank Butterfly Kids Climate Action Awards for this incredible opportunity and for recognising the efforts of young climate leaders.

We also commend the dedication of the pupils, teachers, youth volunteers and partners whose leadership continues to transform lives through education, innovation, and climate action.

Together, we are proving that when children read, garden, and lead, they can change the world.

πŸŽ‰ Happy 14th Birthday to our 1st Princess, Little Miss Intellect Zambia 2024, Brandina K***a πŸŽ‚πŸ‘‘

Today we celebrate a remarkable young leader, climate champion and advocate for Sustainable Development Goal 6 Water and Sanitation.
From the moment Brandina registered for Little Miss Intellect Zambia in 2024 as a 12-year-old Grade 6 pupil at Edwin Mulongoti Primary School, she confidently declared. β€œI am in it to win it and create a difference.” She has truly lived up to those words.

Brandina's passion for leadership and service has been evident throughout her journey. Together with her team, she played a key role in advancing the Kubelenga na Kulima Climate Change Awareness Project as the reading programs Manager. She is especially proud to have contributed to a lasting impact at her former school through the installation of a reliable solar-powered water system made possible by a grant from the Japan Water Forum.

The project included the installation of 9 solar panels and solar pumpverter system, restoring daily access to clean water and improving sanitation facilities, particularly for girls.

Although she had to focus on her Grade 7 examinations during part of 2025, she returned immediately after completing her exams and took the lead in organizing the first-ever Kubelenga na Kulima Picnic Party in commemoration of World Children's Day 2025. From responsibly handling organization finances received from the Pioneers in SDGs award of $250 purchases for the picinic to ensuring everyone enjoyed a memorable day.

Brandina demonstrated maturity, accountability and outstanding leadership.
We celebrate a young change maker whose actions are helping create healthier schools, stronger communities and a more sustainable future.

Happy 14th Birthday Brandinah K***a 🎊πŸ₯³ May you continue to inspire others, lead with purpose and make an even greater impact in the years ahead. πŸŒπŸ’§πŸŒ±βœ¨

Celebrating LMIZ @10 πŸŽ‰πŸŒ³πŸ’§

Today 6th June 2026, we are grateful to Njachi Resources
for the installation of a water tap in the schools orchard at Edwin Mulongoti Primary School in Matero Lilanda community.

The tap was officially commissioned by LMIZ Programmes Manager Bwalya Chuma, LMIZ 1st ever 2016 Princess Mapalo Chuma, 2024 Queen Muntai Namusunga and her Team, and the Child Youth Intellects for Change Managing Director. The team also planted additional trees in the school's orchard as part of the ongoing environmental sustainability efforts.
The new tap brings water closer to the school garden, making irrigation easier and supporting the growth of the Kubelenga na Kulima project.

This donation builds on the solar water system earlier installed by the JWF 2025 grant of $1500 received from the Japan Water Forum, which has provided reliable water access for sanitation and gardening activities at the school.

As we celebrate 10 years of Little Miss Intellect Zambia (LMIZ), this milestone demonstrates the power of partnerships in advancing quality education, climate action and sustainable development for children and young people.
Together, we are cultivating minds, growing gardens and building a climate-resilient future. πŸŒ±πŸ’š #
