Following the commemoration of Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28th May, Donate a Pad Zambia was privileged to be among the organizations selected to implement a community initiative in partnership with IRISE Institute of East Africa.
Today, 20th June 2026, our team conducted a community engagement session at Mukonza Centre in Ngombe Township, Lusaka. The session brought together young people, both male and female, as well as caregivers, to discuss the importance of menstrual hygiene management and menstrual health education.
The engagement focused on key aspects of Zambia's Menstrual Hygiene Management agenda, including breaking menstrual stigma, promoting access to menstrual products, and ensuring that girls have the knowledge and support they need to manage their periods with dignity and confidence.
As part of the initiative, we distributed sanitary pads and conducted a practical training on how to make reusable pads, providing participants with a sustainable solution to help address menstrual poverty within their community.
One of the most inspiring parts of the day was the interactive discussion. Girls openly shared their experiences and asked questions about menstruation, while caregivers sought guidance on how best they can support the girls under their care. We also discussed the importance of proper wash facilities and the role they play in ensuring safe and dignified menstrual hygiene management.
We are encouraged by the enthusiasm, openness, and willingness of the Mukonza community to learn and grow. This is only the beginning, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership and creating lasting positive change together.
