This is heart breeding story I have come across today, justice must prevail

Hakainde Hichilema Am breaking the silence 🫒😱😭

I have been sitting on this for months now and tried to mind my own business but my conscious has been eating me up. I know some of my family members will hate me for doing this and my own life will even be at risk but my conscious can't allow me to continue keeping quiet when I know my voice can ensure justice prevails.

What's the use of having influence if it can't benefit even your own relatives. So it's fine, against the advice of my family, friends and even the police I'll speak for a voiceless member of my family and demand justice for her.

Early last month I visited my village in senanga and a cousin of mine came to report to me as the village secretary that my brother in-law has been s*xually abusing her since she was 15 and early this year she fell pregnant for him. According to her narration, the man began s*xually abusing her in 2022 when she was taken from the village by my sister to go and live with them in Mongu. When everyone else went to school, the man (my brother in-law) sneaked into her room and r***d her before threatening her that she'll kill her if she told anyone. From 2022 when she was 15, the man has been ra**ng her at every opportunity until she fell pregnant early this year.

My brother in-law later made arrangements to have her terminate the pregnancy at a medical personnels house at mulimambango health facility in sesheke. While their, the health personnel also r***d her before inserting some metals in her private parts to remove the pregnancy which also failed. Two more abortion attempts were made on different days and before every attempt the medical personnel also r***d her but they were all unsuccessful.

She was later given some pills to take which also failed and was told to fabricate a story that she was r***d by a truck driver she doesn't know so as to protect my brother in-laws marriage and reputation. The young lady was sent back to the village with her pregnancy and my brother in-law continued to send her money while at the village. Unfortunately in April this year, the young lady delivered a premature baby who died while going to the clinic.

The girl entered depression and opened up about her misery to some members of the family who sat on the issue. Hence when she saw me visiting the village, knowing that I have influence she tearfully narrated to me this whole traumatic experience. As evidence, she showed me the airtel money transactions of the money my brother in-law has been sending to her. I equally broke down 😭😭😭

I have been visiting the house where this girl was being kept and to me I thought everything was okay, yet since 2022 when this girl was 15 a 50 years old man has been ra**ng her at every opportunity 😭😭 Being a father of a daughter myself, I was enraged by the cruelty of my brother in-law. I told the girl don't worry I will help you.

The next day I confronted the family members who were aware of this issue and decided to keep quiet and they responded this is a sensitive issue we are still finding a way to address it. The next day I traveled to sesheke where my sister (perpetrators husband) was to confront her and she expressed ignorance of the whole issue. The girl also told her the fabricated story of the truck driver and was only hearing the issue of her husband from me.

The next day I traveled with my sister to mongu and organized a family meeting where her husband was summoned. The man and his family asked for leniency and requested that the issue is not reported to the police but rather we can just charge him. Some of us refused to take part in the charging and advised the matter is reported to the police soo that the girl can also seek professional counseling and medical check up.

The next day, the matter was reported to Mongu Central police at the victim support unit and the girl was taken to an NGO supported safe house for victims of violence. The next day, medical tests were undertaken on her which reviewed her private parts where permanently damaged due to long years of regular forced s*xual in*******se.

On the same day, the police called us as a family and mentioned that the case of defilement or r***d has no evidence because the girl turned 18 in January therefore they'll have too look for any other s*xual offence. The next day, we wrote them a letter in the comments section highlighting the criminal offences which were committed against the girl and demanded for justice.

It's been a month and the police have not communicated anything. The girl is stuck at the safe house in Mongu, her parents are equally stuck at a relatives house with no proper update from the police while the perpetrator is free. Considering that the farming season is approaching, the girls parents now want to go back to the village and they are demanding I should give them their daughter back since the justice system has failed them.

It breaks me to write this because the man in question is my sister's husband of 25 years, but my young cousins state breaks me more. She went to the city from the village with the hope to pursue an education but the man who was supposed to protect her turned her into his s*x slave for over 2 years. Because of this, she failed her grade 7 terribly, her private parts are permanently damaged and she is currently suffering from severe depression locked up in a safe house in Mongu. Her life has been shuttered yet her abuser is moving about freely while the police is too busy to even summon her abuser and launch investigations.

Friends this girl needs justice, I have tried my efforts as a family member but the system seems to be protecting the perpetrator and other family members are looking at me as a traitor. Am sorry if breaking this story makes me a bad family member but my conscious can't allow me to continue keeping silent about this issue. I am therefore calling upon all the relevant stakeholders to develop keen interest in this issue which has been dragging for over a month now.

The young lady needs justice, she is poor from the village and her parents are villagers. They need someone to speak for them, unfortunately I can't because am conflicted. Please tag anyone or any institution which you think can help the young lady. Zambia Police HQ I have tagged the president because he is the commander in chief and the police are under him.

I have been patiently waiting for the police to do their Job after reporting the case but they seem to be uninterested in even just summoning the perpetrator to even question him or worse even just updating us as a family on what is happening. Your excellence our daughters are not safe if this is how the police handles cases of s*xual abuse against young girls. My humble request is please remind the police in Mongu to do their Job, the young lady is just demanding for justice and no one should block her from getting it after enduring over 2 years of regular r**e by her guardian.

Your excellence when victims gather the courage to report their abusers, the police should come in swiftly so that more victims who are quite can know that their is a justice system they can run to. If the police in Mongu allow this case to die a natural death, they will be disappointing thousands other young girls who are enduring abuse in our country and are scared to come out. Please help this girl get justice πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Apologies to the family members offended by this post, I couldn't continue turning a blind eye. Personally I believe family should protect each other even against other family members hence my decision. My brother in-law has dangerous friends, please pray for me because they might come for me after exposing this.

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 10TH OCTOBER 2024

THEME: workplace mental health

>Self care is the practice of taking care of your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well being.Self Care is about nurturing yourself so that you have energy resilience and strength to pursue your goals and fulfill your purpose.

>Self Care involves setting boundaries to protect your time, energy and mental health. this means saying no to things that drain you or distract you from your path. It also mean prioritizing activities that nourishes your body mind and soul. whether is getting enough sleep, eating healthy food, exercising, meditation or spending time in nature or engaging in creative activities.

>Self Care is about filling your cup so that you can pour in others, But Self care is not just about the things you do to yourself it is also about protecting self compassion, being kind to yourself and forgiving yourself for the mistakes you made. That means recognizing that you are work in progress and growth takes time. That means you have to patient with yourself giving yourself a grace to learn, to grow and to evolve.

Happy world mental health day ❀❀
