Truck driver dies after fuel tanker crash
BOTH the life and long journey of a truck driver along the Chirundu route have been cut short after his vehicle was involved in a serious accident with a fuel tanker at Kapiri Ngozi.
The driver died in the accident, while the fuel tanker driver survived but was injured and rushed to hospital by well-wishers.
According to Chirundu Town Council public relations unit, the fuel tanker driver, however, managed to escape from the wreckage but sustained injuries.
Before emergency responders arrived, well-wishers evacuated the injured driver to hospital for medical attention.
Upon receiving the report, Fire and Rescue officers from Chirundu Town Council immediately rushed to the scene and worked together with the Zambia Police.
The accident scene was secured to allow emergency teams to work safely and prevent further harm, especially given that one of the vehicles involved was carrying fuel.
The council has since conveyed its condolences to the family of the deceased driver and wished the injured tanker driver a speedy recovery.
It has also urged motorists and other road users to exercise extreme caution and observe traffic regulations.
"Furthermore, the Council urges all road users to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic regulations," the local authority urged.
